This is for the Samsung Epic Touch 4G ONLY

Brought to you by midNIGHT ROM and Android4Autism

This is simply a deodexed version of the System and Framework for the Stock Epic Touch 4G System apps and framework

I thought I would share this for anyone that’s interested. I don’t have a great deal to contribute at the moment as I have my hands full. However, I wanted to share this for anyone that wants a stock deodexed system apps and framework.

Note: when you type “su” make sure to give permission on you phone

Download and extract each folder to the root of your INTERNAL memory.

Here are the commands needed to push this over to your phone.

adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/framework/* /system/framework/
rm /system/app/*.odex
rm /system/framework/*.odex
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot

The files are uploadinng now and will be posted on my site in just a bit. For those of you not familiar with me and how I operate here’s the deal. I’m a father to 3 boys on the Autism Spectrum. I do this work in order to help out the community and raise Autism Awareness. Directing you to my site is only to raise awareness about Autism. You don’t have to register for anything and ALL my work is free of cost.

I have a project going on right now called Android4Autism, where I take donated Android devices and turn them into learning tools for kids on the spectrum. These are donated to families that would otherwise never be able to obtain such a device. I made my first donation about a week ago and it was an amazing experience.

I appreciate your understanding and support. I’m sorry if you disagree with my methods but I have the overwhelming support for many in the community and my methods have been approved by the mods.

Thank you so much.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

Journaling ON is safer but slightly slower as it writes more.Journaling OFF is slightly faster as there are fewer writes but you do run the risk of data loss or corruption if power loss occurs. I personally, use journaling OFF as do many other developers.

midNIGHT ROM v5.5 BYOR FIXED.zip (Flash with the Bonsai Recovery)

If you downloaded the build from eariler and not the “FIXED” release currently posted, You’ll need this “fix” PLEASE be sure to flash AccountAndSyncSettings.zip THIS WAS ACCIDENTALLY LEFT OUT OF THE ROM. I’M RE-UPLOADING THE FIXED ROM. I WILL HAVE THE MISSING FILE INCLUDED. IF YOU ALREADY FLASHED THE ROM SIMPLY FLASH THE AccountandSyncSettings.zip AND YOU”LL BE GOOD TO GO.

Change Log:

This ROM is FULLY tweaked with ALL the standards PLUS Journaling is ON.
midNIGHT Extras has been updated
Restored Clock
updated scripts
LauncherPro (updated)

What you get here is everything you have come to love about the midNIGHT BYOR series with the added stability of Journaling ON. I have personally been having to many issues with Journaling OFF.

While my daily driver is the Nexus S 4G my wife and kids utilize the Epic 4G each and every day. The Epic is my preferred device for Android4Autism. With these devices being dropped (by my kids) and the batteries popping out, everything would just go straight to FC hell. I was reflashing these things all the time as a result. So I integrated the newBonsai Journaling ON script into my updater script and the result has been a much stabler experience. So I figured I would refresh my last release and share it with all of you.

What will you find in this ROM.

New Default wallpaper (Autism and Fibromyalgia Awareness)
Fascinate Calendar
Contacts
Battery modded Camera (VERY,VERY big Thanks to k0nane)
Task Manager/Hotspot (As they can’t safely be removed)
CIQ Removed
Launcher Pro as default and ONLY included launcher (unistallable)
Bonsai Kernel v4.0.1

VERY BIG THANKS to the Bonsai team for the Journaling ON script. Thanks guys…..

Instructions:

If you are coming from v5.3 BYOR Edition you “should” be fine with out wiping. If you experience problem then wipe and reflash.

1) Download the ROM and read my blog while your waiting Android
2) Copy the .zip to your SDcard and delete the current midNIGHT ROM Extras folder from your card as well.
3) Flash the ROM and reboot
4) Enjoy

If you need to Root your phone I VERY strongly recommend using MasterKey by the Bonsai team. You can even reroot with Masterkey and take advantage of the New Bonsai Recovery. Very Nice Work

Android4Autism_ Epic_v1 – Public_Beta_1.zip

THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. This ROM is a test ROM based on midNIGHT ROM v5.3 EC05.

This ROM is designed for children with Autism. While it will function basically the same as a BYOR Edition it comes with children’s apps preinstalled.

I’m interested in how your children can utilize this. I have had a few revisions of this ROM already. In previous revisions I had launcherpro preconfigured to hide all the apps but the kids ones. However, for some reason the apps couldn’t be unhidden. So when these devices ship out the extra apps will be hidden.

This is a stable ROM. The next build will have journaling turned on.

  1. [...] midNIGHT ROM DK28 (Froyo) v2.2 EXT4 12/29/2010 You can view the midNIGHT ROM v2.2 EXT4 in action at my blog. __________________ I'm a father to 3 Autistic boys and my wife is sick. I develop in my free [...]

  2. So what do you guys think?

    • Mike says:

Hi rob, I'm sure its a dumb question but for the Theme, do you just run it as a .zip from CM3? I did that and it said to rerun as Edify. Thank you for what you do.

    • i have followed the directions very carefully multiple times but every time i do the 4.1 upgrade the launcher will not top force closing

      • Sorry to hear that. The upgrade should have nothing to do with the launcher. What launcher are you using the default launcher pro? My best advice would be to clear the data cache or that apk in the application settings…

      • i went into the midnight rom extras folder and flashed the froyo launcher stock .zip and now its working but do u know what caused the force close in the intial upgrade

    • i flashed 4.2 standard but still do not have the reboot in the power off list or the default paper or transparent notifcation bar… how do i get that

      • You need to download a theme and then flash it like you did the rom. It's not included by default.. it's an option though.

    • MACE says:

so can I use this rom if I am already on EC05?

Man been using your ROM since it came out. Tried Viper, Quantum, Epic Experience, Nebula, etc. Yours is by far my favorite. midNIGHT ROM FTW!!!!!!!!!

You have been updating your but off. When I moved to v2.2 you then hit 2.3, when I moved to that you hit 2.4 lol. No worries I'm just glad that you are so active.

I've also been reading your "other" blogs and I just want you to know that there are people out here who do care about what you are going through and you have really opened my eyes to a lot of things man. So, stay strong and keep those Roms rolling out lol cheers!

P.S. why don't you join the Facebook Epic 4G community. We would love to have you there (that is if you aren't already a member yet). you can drop in anytime lol just tell them Ollie asked you to come over.

  4. Ollie says:

Oh sorry for the double post, but the page on FB is "Sprint Samsung Epic 4G" ;)

  5. I did join tonight. Thanks for the invite

  6. Ben (B5Z) says:

Just wanted to say to anyone reading this… if you haven't tried this ROM along with the theme, you are missing out! I've tried just about every ROM out there and I always come back to this one. As a matter of fact, I haven't been an another ROM at all in the past 3 weeks because of the stability and the reliability that I get using this for work & pleasure.

FYI – I'm currently using midNIGHT ROM v2.5 (Stock) with midNIGHT Theme v3 (AOSP Lock). I ran quadrant on this and got 1593 score! For those who are not familiar & as a comparison, the stock Galaxy S phones hover around the 800 mark.

Rob – "THANK YOU" for finding time in your busy schedule to work on & share your work with all of us!!! You and your family are in my prayers my friend!

P.S. – Thanks for posting the videos! It's nice to have a sneak peak (even though I intend on flashing it anyways – lol)

    • Thanks man…

  7. Mike says:

Disregard. I had to run it under CM 2.5.1.2, worked perfect!

  8. schnergun says:

just installed midnight v 2.7 and cant get the theme to download. it gives me this error:

amend scrippting (update script) is no longer sub ported.

Amend scripting was deprcated by google in android 1.5

it was neccessary to remove it when upgrading to cwm 3.0 gingerbread based recovery. please switch to edify scripting (updater script and update binary) to creat working update zip packages.

    INSTALLATION ABORTED

  9. schnergun says:

    i meant version 2.6

  10. George says:

It seems like you have CW3 already on your phone and you're trying to put an incompatible update.zip script that uses the older Amend script. All of the newer roms and newer updates require the Edify script which will be used more extensively in Gingerbread. You need to either downgrade back to CW2.5 or just download the newer 2.7 ROM which has the Edify Script.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  11. schnergun says:

i thought i had downlaoded the 2.7 rom from xda but when i installed and looked it said it was 2.6 Can you link me to the right one?

    • You need to flash the build prop fix

  12. schnergun says:

went back to cw2.5 and it worked thanks for the help.

Rob – I'm beginning to have USB non-recognition, requires my laptop total reset. Once I get the phone recognized I'm OK. Seen anything like this?

    • chuckenheimer says:

Seems the drivers are problematic – on again and then off. I have to remove and reinstall to get them to respond. Maybe a newer version from Samsung, or something?

  15. Rounsy222 says:

Gotta tell ya nice work all around, rom and video. Hats off to you and what you do for your get away time. Great blog too!

  16. Rob – Changer to Sony cords. Won't fit well enough to power the 4g though.
Everything seemed just fine until I installed the ringtones, etc. and added a Market APK. Allowed the extended battery to run to zero and swapped to the OEM battery. Boot loop. CWM 3.0.0.5 can be used but there's a niggle where the "go back" option is missing from one or two of the screens. Reflashed the ZIPs, except the ROM, but no luck. What else can I try?

  17. Adam says:

Love the theme man, hate the transition animations. How does one go about disabling them?

  18. SBeinhauer says:

Been running rom and themes for awhile now. By far the smoothest experience out of any rom that I have tried. Keep up the great work and looking forward the the new release. Keep The Faith

  19. schnergun says:

so what will be the difference between this rom (2.9) and midnight rom 2.7 ?

  20. Thanks everyone……

  21. Derek says:

Awesome work on 2.9.2, but seem have lost my GPS lock. Any idea on how to get it back?

  22. Alex says:

Is it possible to tether using 4g speeds on this rom?

  23. Steve says:

Just wondering when 3.o will come out, i tried to flash it and it would let me flash it i kept getting an error, but either way i love your work and you are a great developer thanks for everything

  24. The new build in testing seems to be working great.

  25. Steve says:

    can i be a tester?

    • PM me on XDA I'll need testers soon…

  26. Robert says:

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but I will. I loaded your ROM and have tried other ROM's but keep coming back to this one. I loaded 2.9 and used the directions on the page step by step. I keep getting Messaging FC's

    (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly

Also for market when i try to download an APP

    (process com.google.process.gapps) Did I miss a step?

    • Move to v3.0

  27. PrinceBasil says:

I had a quick question. You have quite a few Edify packages on the side. One is the Gingerbread Theme. How do I flash that? What are the requirements? I installed midNIGHT ROM and then I tried to install that theme but I just kept getting a boot-loop. I had to flash the ROM over again and then flash all the other stuff… Help please?

    • I'll look at it but as I said in the xda thread I can't support other peoples zips all I did was swap out the script….

      • Eudes says:

I got V3.0. and installed [THEME] Gingerbread [CM6.1.1] (edify)

but when i reboot after installation the android and the circle stays and vibrates sometimes. Thats it then i have to do a restore.

  28. iceman19631 says:

Dude, you guys are amazing. I have been a fan of your rom since 2.6 and I simply must say that it has truly been the best rom I've used. God Bless you and yours. And….Keep up the good work you're doing.

  29. KUHawk says:

This is more for the community as I know Rob has his thoughts and energies elsewhere today: is there somewhere to go where I can view/read what each of the zips in the right sidebar look like or accomplish?
    Thanks…

    • Death259 says:

Best bet would be to either just do a google search, or go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?… and search there.

  30. Celz says:

I always just copy the title and run it thru google.. Im 99% sure you can find out what that zip does that way..

  31. Sorry I have been so hit and miss…. As far as the zips are concerned I simply took zips people gave me and converted them to the new scripts. I can't vouch for the contents. If you have a question about one let me know and I will try to find the answer.

  34. shawn says:

you said you had a how to video on how to download your ROM v.3.0….i cant find it here on the android dev.page

    • you are correct. Not sure how that happened. I'll have to get that back up. The data gov putter backer puts the gov back in place.

  35. Steve says:

i flashed the new 3.1 and i cant get the animations to work any idea, i flashed from 3.0 did a complete wipe and still nothing

    • Animations are in the theme not the rom. Reflash the theme….

  36. Steve says:

where do you find the theme download ?

    • Look at my xda thread in the 2nd post

  37. Benito says:

how can i get the apps to scroll up and down the way yours does on the video.

    • Its in the drawer settings in launcher pro

  38. Benito says:

ok….. im confused or dumb. :) you said you have adw launcher right? you can still customize the scroll effect on the menu from one launcher while using another? sorry first time doing all the rooting and flashing stuff. :)

  39. Benito says:

yeah im dumb. i figured it out. now im wondering how to get it without the line on the right side of the screen. like the way yours is on the video. i cant explain it but maybe you can still help me lol! :)

    • I don't know. U need to just play with the settings.

  40. Bostonguy30 says:

Hey just flashed you ROM and think its awesome! I was wanting to use setcpu to overclock to around 1.2GHz! I bricked my phone tonight due to "playing" with various kernels. Can you please point me in the direction of a kernel that will work with your ROM that will allow me to overclock! By the way, Its not that it needs to be overclocked, the ROM increases speed greatly. Just wanna have the fastest phone at the office!……lol

  41. justin says:

Hi i just did everything and after midnight installed my phone rebooted but it never rebooted into the original screen. the samsung thing shows up and then screen goes black and keeps vibrating. what should i do?

  42. JS says:

Hey, on this new release based on Bonsai's 2.0.1, does yours zipalign programs upon reboot?

Thanks, love your work…stay strong, you have my prayers and deepest support.

  44. Lance says:

Hi i'm really impressed by this rom and I really wanna try it. Ive only rooted and flashed once. I'm currently running the (TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.2 [EXT4/CWM3] [Updated 01.18.11) and was wondering if your rom was compatible with mine. I've found some imperfections in my current rom and wanted to switch. I know how to get in to clock work and flash and wipe 3x. Also can you advise the best way to reinstall apps after flashing? Im using titanium backup pro. Thanks in advance and I wish you the best with your wife's surgery and recovery!

    • Just flash like you normally would. The reason you need to wipe is because the process will backup and restore your current data. That's a bad idea cause the apps attached to the data will be missing and you will probably see a ton of FC's…..

Once you flash the rom let it boot up once. Then flash into CW again and flash all the apps you want You can try to restore the "DATA" only with titanium afterwards but I would be careful. This is kind of a new process and warrants starting over. Best of Luck

I'm running 3.2 loaded up great love it, But when I hit the share button after making a video I get gmail yourtube email but no facebook. I have the FB app installed and working great. But no way to share photos or video to FB. Any idea how to fix this?

    • I haven't seen that issue. I am releasing a prebuilt Roman for hose having trouble. Check back shortly..

  46. Robert says:

    Thanks! Will check back.

    Just loaded 3.2 Standard

Same problem Can't share video to Facebook

    Anybody else have this problem?

  48. Ok. So it's becoming clear that the majority seem to like the pre builds. So what I think I am going to do is try to do 2 releases at a time. One will be the pre-build and one will be a more "Naked" edition. I think the BYOR is more for the advanced user or someone who is comfortable flashing. It really is quiet simple just flash the apps you want and then pull the rest from the market. However, I think it has become way to complicated and I think many people missed the point.

That said, the next build will contain ALL the basic apps needed to use the phone (music/video player, my files, default browser, calc, email/mms, gallery). I just cut to deeply this time around. So I will be making the pre-builds the priority going forward but do my best to get a more manageable BYOR Edition up as well…

How does that sound to everybody?

  49. Jacob says:

HELP! I installed 3.2 and now my phone won't boot. It just stays at the Samsung logo. I previously already had clockwork mod v2.5.1.0 on my phone, and just tried to install my first custom ROM, as Midnight 3.2, and it appeared to be successful, but upon rebooting it won't start. How do I fix it?

    • Jacob says:

I used Odin and Flashed it back to the stock Rom. Then I decided to try again so I rooted and applied the update, but again after the phone rebooted it was stuck on the Samsung logo screen. I did this even a third time after that with the same results. I think I'm going to have to give up on this rom and go for one that has the standard Samsung file system.

  50. Ollie says:

Hey man this is your pal Ollie. I LOVE your BYOR version of the ROM. it is awesome to have the options to throw what you want on the device. THIS IS THE TRUE ANDROID EXPERIENCE!!!!! This is how it is suppose to be. You are suppose to be able to do this! Keep it up man Love this idea. N I hope Mrs. LostAndTired gets soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. Andrew says:

Hey, have been using pre-made 3.2 (not adventurous enough to cook on my own yet) and it's working great except for wi-fi… is anyone else having this issue? When I click the wifi icon it says it's trying to turn on, but eventually times out and gives and error… every time… any advice would be great…

    • Spencer says:

This is an issue with DK28 (leaked froyo), so unless someone has come up with a fix (i haven't heard of one yet) then all roms will suffer from this.

  52. Matt says:

Thanks for everything that you do. I am new to doing this stuff to my phone and I love it. Can we change the boot screens on the BYOR 3.2? The speed is amazing and my battery life doesn't suffer as much. Thanks again for everything you do, and my prayers and best wishes go out to you and your family. Thanks.

  53. Jeff says:

Hey just wanna say i love the BYOR edition. I agree with you that you may have cut it a little too much. Imo the only things you need to keep are the basic phone functions like sms, mms, and voicemail for example. Its not hard to flash them, but i dont know anyone who doesnt use those lol . Everything else is usualy customised by each user anyway. I thought it was easier to just add what i wanted to it then to take the full rom and delete the things i dont want, and still add to it. 1 less step. I think i speek for all when i say good luck with your wife and family and still taking the time to put this together for us. Thank You!

  54. Gowind says:

Hi Rob, don't know whether im disturbing you in yr tight schedule. I need your help. Im a noob and i bricked my new epic. let me tell you how it happened.

after getting courage by watching your video on how to install midnight rom on stock dk28, i did the following steps.

    1. updated my stock eclair DI18 with DK28 using update.zip successfully.

    2. Did one click rooting with CWM3 and converted everything to ext4 successfully.

    3. Then in clock work recovery i flashed midnight rom v3.2 standard edition.

    4. everything went well and fine till the point of reboot but then things got messed up. the phone would boot till the point when the black screen displays samsung mobile logo. then the screen would go off and the capacitive buttons remain lit. then the phone will vibrate and it powers down. it will repeat this cycle till i remove the battery cover.

    5. i tried to restore the backup in clockwork, it backed up and then it tries to boot up, its the same story.

I know u might have answered this issue multitudes of time, but still. can i get help.

  55. Gowind says:

    *5. it restored the backup.
made a mistake at point no 5 in earlier post.

  56. Nast says:

Is there anyway to get AOSP Email working, I had it working with your first BYOR download but once you have the stock email client on their I cant put AOSP over it.

  57. JAofCT says:

Been using Midnight ROMs since the begining and by far truly the best! I agree with Nast. AOSP email is much better than the stock. Would love to see the BYOR version include just MMS and we can pick our own email client. I am running the original 3.2 BYOR and AOSP and am loving it. Hoping I can still stick with AOSP for the next release. For some reason once you have the stock email on the device you can not install AOSP.

  58. ab says:

when i install midnight rom on my samsung epic 4g s. my phone doesnt boots up.. anymore it says E: cant open /cache/recovery/log do u know why its saying this n can u help me plz..

    • Death259 says:

Your best bet would probably be to Odin back to stock DK28 and root and install CWM again. Then you can re-flash the rom.

  59. Antonio says:

how do you install the add-on .zip files

    • Flash the same as you did the ROM

  60. Antonio says:

how do i remove the default lockscreen?

    • Death259 says:

By flash i do mean use CWM.

    • Death259 says:

Actually it's now easier than ever… the AOSP locksreen is located in the midnight rom extras folder.

So, you can go into recovery to install the zip. Go to the midnight rom extras directory and choose the AOSP lockscreen zip.

    • Spencer says:

If you are wanting to change to the AOSP lockscreen then you can use the link on the side bar and flash the lockscreen.

  61. JB says:

I am not seeing the midNIGHT ROM v3.3 Standard Edition update.zip in the Extras folder.

    • midNIGHT ROM v3.3 Standard Edition Update.zip is the name of the zip you are looking for. It's under the Nexus S zip and over the microbes.

  62. JB says:

Looks like my SD card was full and it just wasn't able to copy everything over.

    All good now. Thanks!!!

  63. PhilD says:

I'd doublecheck the script… I had the same issue as JB… I'm sure it's in the archive so I'll copy it over when it decides to boot all the way.. but it wasn't there initally :(

  64. PhilD says:

Hrm, ignore my comment… I must have just been blind… unless it create that on the first boot?

  65. Rob says:

Can someone have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=…

A couple of us have the same failure, but I can't post in the dev thread linked above because I don't have enough posts…

Basically, no network after 3.3 flash.

  66. Rob B says:

Is it possible to rename your rom so that the phone "reports" the version differently. A few of the programs I use say that this build is not compatible with their features…which of course we all know it is more than capable :)

  67. Rob B says:

I figured out why I kept getting stuck on the Samsung logo screen….it has to do with the SD card. I put in a blank SD card, one without all the prior Android folders and it worked just fine. Been playing with this for about 3 hours before it dawned on me!!!

  68. Hey, is there a way you can make some custom boot screens, so we dont have the samsung logo and everything.. Just something different and cool… Love your work, just did the 3.3!!!!

  69. New 3.3 keep getting Force Close Swype… I also did standard, and then did handcent, but the stock messenger is there so I keep getting two messages… Any Idea's??

  70. Haha… Last thing I swear… Haha… Is there anyway to get the stock messenger app to be the froyo bubbles instead of the regular threaded style??? Please let me know how to do that… Thanks man, and you guys are in our prayers 2 times a day!!!

  71. Agent0013 says:

Awesome Rom!!! I am new to this Android hacking and this is only the second ROM I have put on my freshly upgraded Epic. I was having problems with the tilt sensor not working it the Truly Epic Reborn, so I decided to give your ROM a try and my tilt works perfectly now. Plus, I was using Launcher Pro before when I was still on a stock system, so I was used to it and liked it. Thanks for the work you put into this, it looks to be working great!!!

  72. Thanks everyone for all the support…. Things are a bit rough at home right now so I can't get to everyone.. I am trying to address all the confirmed issues right now. I just don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring them. :)

  73. Incredible ROM. I love the barebonesness of it all. Thank for your hard work. I tell everyone I know about this ROM.

  74. Tried using go sms but wouldn't receive messages. I had to install stock to get go to work. Sad.

Have the same issues as bogus… Installed CW3 before this and cant even get my old backup to restore. Seems like theres an issue with the radio? Any resolutions to this issue?

    • All you need to do is odin the dk28 modem. Jump on the xda epic development forum and you'll find it. Just odin the modem. You won't lose anything if you just odin the dk28 modem. This is a known issue….

  81. LickARock says:

Man, I am running 3.3, with the facelift… It is just amazing. It is so scary fast… It puts the stock to shame. The official froyo comes out TODAY… and I had been waiting to upgrade to that. But I am going to have to stick with yours. Its fast, smooth, reliable. I get killer battery. I wasn't even down to 75% yesterday with light usage over 12 hours of use.

The only thing I would like to see would be a flashable, optional overclock kernel, (and of course another flashable zip to remove it if you didn't like it)

Much love to you and your family. I know you have it rough man, and I just have to say thank you SOOO MUCH for building such and incredible rom, which is more stable than the guys at sprint and samsung could ever dream up.

  82. LickARock says:

Oh, and by the way… I love BYOR. Such an ingenious idea. I think what you did with 3.3 was perfect. It was a good all around solution for everyone. I still got to choose exactly what I wanted running, and other people with one more flash got a more complete package. Keep up the awesome work!

  83. midnight 3.3 build your own is not working very well when i install and then restart its shows the start up screen with a andriod in the midle of the s symble and after that i cant shut the phone off it just keeps restarting has any one else had this problem i have wiped 3x every thing pryer to install what could i be doing wrong i went back to 3.0 for now but with the byo appps you have provided

    • Spencer says:

You might try re-flashing your rom through CWM. The reason you are getting the flashing android is because that's how dameon has his portion do it, in order to show that you can have custom boot animations now with EB13. I ran into this problem initially, but once i flashed the 3.3 facelift everything was peachy (it flahsed over a new bootanimation).

  84. Christian M says:

Will a download link for v4.0 be coming anytime soon?

  85. Rounsy222 says:

Hey, thanks for all your hard work! One question, do you know if the genocide kernal will work with this?

  86. Love the ROM. The calendar and mail app are different from 3.3. How do I get those back? I love the calendar showing my appointments at the bottom of the month screen.

    • Spencer says:

You should be able to get it from the 3.3 zip. Just grab the package and flash it with CWM…. i wanna say you will want the Clock Package… i think that's what you're looking for.

    • Spencer says:

Do a nandroid backup before hand, just in case that happens to be the wrong one.

      • I flashed the Clock Package but nothing changed. I grabbed the Gingerbread Email from 3.3 and flashed that. Now it is back. Now I need to do the same for the calendar.

        • Death259 says:

Alrighty, so i was mistaken, it's not the clockpackage you want. There's a seperate CalendarProvider.apk…. you can take the one from 3.3 and probably ADB push it to your phone, or you might be able to use RootExplorer to move it to the right directory.

  87. damillatime says:

Having trouble getting swype to work. Any ideas?

    • Death259 says:

      What's not working on it?

      • damillatime says:

there is no sype. it's got a regular touch screen keyboard. I tried flashing a couple of the swype zips in the midnight extra folder and that didn't work, although when I flashed the samsung keyboard that did work. I downloaded the swype edify zip at the top of this page and flashed that. that just created a nasty swype force close message that wouldn't go away and so I had to reflash the rom.

  88. Brad says:

Great job on the rom's. I am running 3.3 byor and like being able to just add what I need. My question is should I install the 4.0 byor? I did not do the new sammy froyo upgrade so is the 4.0 just for those that did install it?

  89. damillatime says:

are there different startup animations to choose from?

  90. Christian M says:

I've gone through every ROM at least once. And the one thing all of them have in common is when I strip them (or when they have been stripped) no matter the ROM, About Phone will always crash upon first boot. I'm not sure if there is a specific file causing the crashes. I even loaded an untouched ViperRom with the same issue. Flashing now. Maybe it is a midNIGHT ROM issue

  91. VP says:

Hey guys, quick two questions for anyone that can answer.

    1) Whatever happened to the "pulse notification LED" setting that was present on the Epic back in stock Eclair? It isnt present in the DK28 and EB13 updates and there is no way to have the LED pulse for a missed call like we were able to before.

    2) On version 3.3, flashing TW restore and the midNight theme gave us a 5-soft button launcher and a transparent app drawer if we chose to view it in Grid mode…what happened to this, and/or is it possible to get this back??…especially the 5-button launcher b/c I have no problem with Touchwiz, so I dont mind using it but the extra button does come in handy (and dont want to use LauncherPro or ADW).

  92. Christian M says:

    Two quick things.

    1) You CAN flash the genocide overclockable kernel It will repair the g-sensor AND the redirector will still work.

    2) Some programs that have to use the SD card seem to be crashing. Music and Video are both unusable. I don't know if thats a problem with the ROM or I did something wrong.

  93. amego says:

The rotation works right, but some wired problem with the compass application. I flash used the EB13 Dual Filesystem [EXT4/RFS] Kernel.

  94. Adam says:

Hey I was just wondering where the older versions of the midNIGHT rom was…this is going to be my first flash so I wanted to start with an easy stable build :)

I also wanted to say you do a ton and its really amazing.i mean I have one kid at 3 years old and hrs a handful as it is. God bless you for all your do and still developing in the meantime.

Also, I work with a social media marketing form and would love to help you out with building up your blog and getting views. Obviously we can work out sine deals

  95. Adam says:

Sorry I'm on my phone and hit submit by accident but we could definitely work our a deal considering the position your in.

Thanks for working on roms and all the hard work you do!

  96. Michael Love says:

Does anyone else get random reboots with this ROM. I've been using it since 3.0 and love it, but when I get missed calls and got to check them, that's when it reboots. This is now happening on 4.0 also. I am using the AOSP Lockscreen and I've read that could happen. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

    • I am having this issue too. Sad.

  98. Everett says:

Can't post in the dev section because I don't have enough posts, I need to know if I'll have any problems flashing the 4.1 patch over 4.0 if I've already got the genocide kernel installed?

    • You will be just fine….

  99. JB says:

Hey Rob…loving this latest update. Quick question, as I can't seem to find it out or not…but has your setup been Deodexed?

    • Yes. Very easy to tell. If you look at the system files you wont see odexed copyist of everything. For example mms.apk and mms.odex

  100. Sharon says:

    Hi, I'm currently on 3.3.

1)Do I install 4.0, then 4.1? Or can I go directly to 4.1? Do I have to wipe?

2)Also, it notes that auto rotate is broken. Does 4.1 correct this?

3)I'm using Genocide 1.2ghz, will this upgrade affect it?

4)You also noted that this does not back up your files. If I back up w/Titanium, will this bring back my apps upon reboot?

Please confirm that this is working on DK28/EXT4/CWM3.

    Thanks.

    • All…well most of the answers you are looking for are in the instructions. As far as backing up goes, DON'T. Maybe data, maybe…. You are coming from a leaked build to an Official Release. Starting from scratch is recommended. Going forward backup will be ok cause your going from official to official…..

      • Sharon says:

OK Thanks. So it is recommended that I move to EB13, then upgrade directly 4.1.

        • Sharon says:

          Sorry 4.0 then 4.1? thanks.

          • You got it…

          • Sharon says:

Thanks!!! Worked like a dream. :-D

  101. reno says:

Hello. Im coming from viper rom. Using cwm3 and the new midnight 4.0 wont flash… sorry if this question has been answered. But I can't find a solution. Starts up and aborts without an error message something about scripts though. Thanks alot for any help. And god bless

    • Maybe a bad download..?? Also you could be inside a broken CW3.. Can you browse the sd card inside of CW3 or does it tell you something about not being able to locate….

Try to redownload the v4.0 and v4.1.. Then try again to flash v4.0 then flash v4.1 on top of it….

  102. Sharon says:

    Sorry 4.0 then 4.1?

  103. Scotty says:

Never rooted or used a custom ROM before last night. Running 4.1 and love the great battery boost I saw today. Thanks for the great work and helpful instructions. Also digging the Evo theme.

  104. Terry says:

Got 4.1 installed, lovin' it! Did the BYOR thing and flashed the stuff I wanted… I really like this feature by the way – less "bloat". Installed some Market apps (mostly social networking stuff), then I flashed the Swype (edify) zip that was posted on the right column of this page. Now, if I have Swype selected I get constant FC's even when I'm not in a text input field. I didn't do a CWM backup before flashing Swype, so it looks like I'm going to have to wipe & start over from 4.0, right?

    • you needed to flash the swype included in the midNIGHT ROM Extras folder. Just flash that one and you should be fine.

      • Terry says:

Tried clearing the Swype cache per your instructions via Twitter. There wasn't anything in the cache, so I just decided to completely wipe the system again & start over. This time I used the Swype from the midNIGHT ROM Extras folder and everything is awesome! I couldn't be happier with this ROM. Portrait to Landscape switching was probably my biggest complaint from the stock EB13 ROM. Yours is amazingly fast! :-)

  105. Andrew says:

Do you have or could you create an edify compliant copy of the logsupdate.zip file to remove SMS and MMS mssgs from the regular call log? This seems to have been built in to prior releases but reverted in the new OS unless I'm missing a setting somewhere? Also, any advice on how to permanently remove the DRM programs from running in the background, as they are a huge memory hog, and I don't use MediaHub or by music through Samsung, so don't really need them… Thx

  106. Bryan says:

Has anyone had any luck getting the bluetooth or voice dialer to work?

  107. altimuh says:

I too am curious about the SMS/MMS logs being removed…

  108. Jim says:

Is there any way to use the honeycomb theme with the stock screen lock?

  109. shadowsky says:

hi im trying to update from v3 to v4.0 but it keeps giving me a error what do i do?

  110. Silver6 says:

Hi Thank you and your hardwork. It is very much appreciated! I'm trying to install the rom from EB13 stock unrooted. Problem I'm having is continuous reboot to blue android logo. It will go to start up but then reboots back to logo every 15 secs or so. Cant even turn the phone off, have to take out the battery. I wiped the cache and reflashed it at least 3x's. Any ideas on what is wrong?

    • Did you flash a theme? If you did you need the let the phone boot up first before going back into cw and flashing a theme.

      Hope that helps

  111. tjlv1975 says:

help… i installed 4.2 and now my wifi won't connect!

  112. James says:

Amazing work with the new release! I tried a while back before Froyo came out, had the radio cycling problem and just went back to stock. After installing Viper ROM for the past few days the battery was being DEVOURED withing 4 hours of little to no use. Finally tried Midnight again and couldnt be happier. Battery looks great so far and it benchmarked much higher than Viper + Viper OC'd kernal. Midnight = winning

  113. sunny says:

hey great job man but i keep running into a problem that i cant seem to figure a way out

every time i try to install version 4.2 i keep getting a error that reads status 7 and wont install i currently have bonsia 3.01 running any idea what the problem is?

  114. Michael says:

All i Can say is there are two things you need, and should have, cooked into all of your roms.

    1. homescreen shortcuts to Autism Awareness Sites

Those not interested can always delete, Those Interested can always have a link to knowledge.

    2. a custom opening logo, maybe of a Autism Bow being put together one puzzle piece at a time. Again, those not wanting it could always flash another over it.

I came for the cool rom I heard about, I stayed, and keep coming back, for the insight into a life I cant even imagine.

Keep up the great work, oh and l like the rom as well.

  115. Jerry says:

The SWYPE in the Midnight ROM extras folder reached an expiration this morning for me, and now won't work. Do you have a full version of the beta? Will the (edify) SWYPE above work to flash over the one I have installed? I love the new version, but any version is fine with me for now.

  116. richie says:

Yes swype for m quit working as well this morning

  117. Jerry says:

    http://beta.swype.com/

Not sure if this will be a permanent fix yet or not, but if you go to this site, and register as a beta user you can get the application back to working.

Just follow the directions on the site.

  118. weldsmoke says:

wow awesome rom guys i didnt even know what a kernal was last week and followed your instructions and worked like a charm. very fast no bugs no problems thank u and keep it up. i hooked u guys up best i could thank you

  119. Jandry says:

Best battery life ive ever had in a ROM, including: Syndicate ROM Frozen, Andromeda 2.1 (eclair build), Midnight ROM (before CIQ removal), ACE rom, bonsai itself, etc. Ive tried them all- this has virtually no lag, has absolutely NOTHING i dont want, and the battery life is phenomenal. Plus, no CIQ!

Battery life example: 2% remaining (calibrating battery)
Time since unplugged: 1 day, 14 hours, 45 minutes
    Display: 66% —> Screen on: 2 hours 52 minutes
    Voice calls: 15 minutes
    Text messages: 20 +
Music playing full media volume via bluetooth: 1 hour 30 minutes
Wifi on: 1 day 1 hour 32 minutes
% when unplugged: 95% battery remaining
This ROM will finally get me through my version of "heavy usage."

My cousin is autistic, though more mentally retarded (18 yo functioning as a 6th grader, in some ways less). It is a tragedy what they face. Kudos for people like you committing time to something besides yourself. While you may have a vested interest due to your kids, your quest helps others have compassion and enables them to find charity in their hearts.

Thanks for the ROM, thanks for your quest of spreading information on Autism..

  120. My wifes Epic is Running 4.2. Her gmail accounts don't sync. The sync icon spins around and her phone gets hot but no syncing. Your thoughts?

    • update! Just her google calendar wont sync. Contacts and gmail do sync.

      • update! Tried selecting mass storage as the usb connection to my pc and it struggled but eventually connected. Then it would never disconnect. I have done this a million times before but I am just recently having a hard time.
I formated her SD card and every thing worked great but then I tried syncing the calendar again. Same problems, not syncing, but it messed up her SD card again. Formated her SD card again and every thing works again except the calendar syncing. Any thoughts?

  121. rahuljin says:

    thanks for this nice rom.

after installing the latest rom 4.2, i am unable to connect to 3g ? i have tried using the quick setting, but it is not connecting to 3g. also it is not showing the '3g' icon in status bar. any solution ??
    btw, thanks again

    • Reflash the modem via ODIN……

      • I did try that and then upgraded her phone to 4.2 but it still is happening. I actually took her phone back to Eclair and rerooted and then upgraded but still getting the issue.

        • I'm an idiot. I didn't see that the reflashing in ODIN was for the 3g, because I didn't read. Sorry.

          • At least you read.. Did you fix it? ;)

          • No, still not able to sync calendars. Sad for her.

      • rahuljin says:

reflashed the modem but still not working. will try to reinstall the rom, btw thanks :)

  126. Turtlezz says:

Hey Rob, love the rom you did a very good job. Just a quick little question though. I love the default wallpaper but when i flashed a theme I lost it. Could there maybe be a chance you could put up a link to download the pic back so I can have the Autism Awareness wallpaper along with a theme? Thank you very much for everything!

  127. Ylcricky says:

Hello Rob, thanks a lot for your very well done job. However , well, there must be something wrong with my epic 4G. when I get the Auto-rotate screen on, the screen never goes up straight but always in the side way. When I turn it off, worse, the number keyboard won't come out when I try to make a call, because the screen goes sideway automatically. Actually, the virtual number keyboard never comes out when I need to make a call. I tried many ways to solve this , but all in vain. Would you give me a hand? Many thanks!

    • I would wipe everything and reflash. Sounds like a bad flash…

  128. dave says:

Just a FYI I didnt see…I was running DK28 midnight and ODIN to EB13 then CWM3 and flashed 4.2 after it was complete…A glowing Android log wouldn't stop flashing…I wiped everything 3x, re flashed and works perfect.

Question….What is the difference between flashing 4.2 standard and the standard upgrade in the BYOR zip? Thanks alot.

    • unxguyjr says:

The same thing..just requires less steps for standard since all the apps in the standard update zip are included. Rob was trying to help out those who could not seem get byor and zip steps figured out.

  129. dave says:

Question….I ODIN EB13 to my epic and for 4.2 do I still need to flash that EB13 modem update you posted at the top of the page? Thanks

    • unxguyjr says:

Only needed if you are having problem…does not hurt things if you do this.

  130. pickles4all says:

Does anyone know if the Voodoo sound mod is included? I know this latest build has the Bonsai kernel, but I can't confirm that the sound fix is in that either. I know it is now part of the genocide kernel, but Rob removed that from 4.1.

    • phrack says:

I don't think it is… I had to flash the zip for it seperately in CWS to get it back.

  131. h16h says:

    BUG?

I accidentally removed battery without powering off and when I powered back on all applications would crash (phone, sms, gmail, browser, etc).

I had tried to reflash, wipe, reflash and same thing (with Midnight 4.2 BYOR).

then I wiped again and flashed the Midnight 4.2 Full Standard, seems to be working again but hindered performance.

    What went wrong?

  132. Christian M says:

I was excited to see that EB13 themes still seem to work. As far as I know anyway.

  133. Ian says:

Love the rom, seems very stable so far and fast too.
I'm having issues with speech recognition not ''installed" on phone – any issues with this? Any ideas?

  134. Jerry says:

Just a note to tell you I personally appreciate your hard work on these ROM's more than you know. Thank you very much.

  135. weldsmoke says:

wow u guys move quick downloading 5 now im currently running 4.2 and love it fast killer battery life everthing works . cool cant wait to try 5 thank you

  136. Austin says:

When flashing, it's been setting on "Test your autism awareness while you wait… autism: or " for quite some time now. I tried pulling the battery and re-flash, same result. Coming from bonsai…

should I try a wipe then flash?

    • Austin says:

      Nebba mahnd.

  137. Austin says:

When using Odin I got this:

    Added!!
    Odin v.3 engine (ID:9)..
    File analysis..
    SetupConnection..
    Initialzation..
    Get PIT for mapping..
    Firmware update start..
    modem.bin
    Complete(Write) operation failed.
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Now my phone won't boot, I cant get in recovery… I'm guessing I can Odin back to factory, but I would like to avoid that… was it a corrupted download?

    • Austin says:

Ok, used the files in the rom zip, seemed to have fixed the issue. I'm going to change my underwear now.
      Phew!

  138. phrack says:

Can you tell me how to keep/restore the clock in the notification bar after moving to 5?

  139. Crystal says:

Until someone gives a better response … I read on the bonsaigeek forum that the AM/PM restore zip here on the Emotionless Beast theme thread – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=… – will restore it for you. I haven't tried it yet though

  140. Eddie says:

Flashed the clock fix, now stock email fc's. Any suggestions?

  141. Veri says:

flashed the clock fix and got multiple Fc's handcent, google app framework, juice-plotter. Everything was running stable and fine for the two days prior till i flashed that this morning so guessing it's related.

  142. Veri says:

Wanted to add also the reported charge on my batter after adding that went way wonky. figure i'll just flash and reload everything but just wanted to pass the info along.

  143. weldsmoke says:

yes reload everthing and wipe everything 3 times before you flash rom im running 5 and no problems with nothing everthing works great nice job guys eco5 modem is nice upgrade to, i actually get a signal in my building at work first time its amazing what u guys do thanks

  144. punkfs says:

Wow you were right, I flashed the modem and I get 4 bars at work now…. wtf, I've NEVER seen more than one. Thats crazy. Awesome.

  145. punkfs says:

On 4.2 i used to get 2400-2500 quad scores @ 1.2 now on 5.0 I barely get 2000, I suppose it doesnt matter.

  146. dave says:

but i honestly love v.2.9 yes i still have that

umm i changed the kernal to over clocked and all

but now on v5 quick question

would my phone falsh successfully if i

delete all folders and include apps i need

    i would keep these folders:

    kernal_update | META-INF | system

will it run correctly after deleting the rest???

  149. Shoulon says:

i'm Confused. Is the "no tweaks edition" same as BYOR Edition just without Journaling?

I want midNight ROM v5 (BYOR edition) EXT4 Journaling off.

  150. Shoulon says:

Also iv'e browsed the website and why is it so hard to find something that simply says.

    "What is Autism?"

    (Explanation Here)

Like how the Home page has Your Wife and kids on Right side.

  151. Eric says:

I have successfully flashed v5 BYOR EXT4 withOUT journaling, and it is awesome. The only issue I am having is that when I try to use Google Search, it keeps asking "Do you want to allow Google to use location for improved search results and other services?" I have tried pressing both agree and disagree and no matter what I do, the box continually pops up until I hit the home button to quite the program. I have tried turning the feature on in the settings for location and security and that doesn't help either. I uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it from Market and it didn't help. The only thing that is different is now when I slide the keyboard open, Google Search does not initialize. Is there something I can do to get Google Search to work, and if so, then what can I do to make it auto open again when I slide out the physical keyboard? Thanks for cranking out such a sweet ROM.

  152. Eric says:

I figured out the problem. It was the red gauge theme. Will there be updated versions of these themes for v5?

  153. Allen says:

Is anyone having issues with the Voice to Text feature, I use it a lot and when hitting the microphone from the keyboard it does nothing.

I just flashed my phone and did the standard edition upgrade. Everything else seems to work great, thanks for all the work!

    • Allen says:

Fixed it, downloaded Google Voice from the Marketplace and installed it. Fixed!

  154. Quentin says:

One question: I installed v5 BYOR before there was a journaling ON version. I then enabled journaling by reformatting the partitions in CW mod between a backup and restore.

Which upgrade patch should I run then, the journaling off or journaling on?

  155. pickles4all says:

I am on 4.2, and want to upgrade to 5.1. I know I need to update to v5 before. I like the full edition or BYOR, with the midnightrom upgrade. Should I choose journaling ON or journaling OFF? What did I have in 4.2, which worked very well.

  156. dj1 says:

will i be able to update my prl with 4.2,5.0,or 5.1??

  157. Running 4.2 should I flash bonsai4.0 kernel?

  158. Robert says:

hi, i’m having problems with headset button. its not working at all with MidNight V5 or 5.1 i change the sec_jack.kl mapping to headsethook but still won’t play music. it used to work(i think midnight v4) but now won’t working at all. can anybody help me out? thanks.

  159. Sharon says:

Hi, I'm wondering if I need to flash the 5.1 patch. So far, I'm not noticing any problems. I believe I flashed v5 Standard Stock [midNIGHT ROM v5 Standard Edition (EXT4).zip]. If I decide to flash the patch, which ROM is the correct one to flash? I'm currently on EC05/EXT4/CWM3.
    Thanks.

    • The patch is optional. If it were mandatory then I would do a ROM release… These are more feature upgrades.

  160. Shawn says:

I just upgraded to midNIGHT ROM v5 (BYOR Edition) EC05 NCIQ plus the patch with journaling as well as the standard extras pack. All seems to be working with the exception of the home screen button. It will vibrate the phone but will not take me back. This a known bug I missed?

  161. Shawn says:

Edit – reinstalled using midNIGHT ROM v5 (BYOR Edition) EXT4 Journaling ON and now all is well. Must have been a hiccup

  162. dj1 says:

i was on 4.2 with ec05 using spare parts to speed things up…now im on 5.1 ec05 same setup byor journaling, its noticably slower…is that a side effect of journaling

  163. nick says:

Thank you, firstly. I cant wait to try this rom out, acs proved top be way unstable for me.

I just upgraded to BYOR version, what does this stand for?

also, which patch do I install…journaling on or off?

    thnkas

  164. neil says:

hey rob love the work you are doing here. i am having all kinds of issues with the newest byo rom set. i want to go to one of your newer roms but what is the difference in them. journal…. no journal…. ext4… im so confused… thanks for any help again rob…

    neil

  165. dave says:

    Basically…
You have to choose rfs or ext4 AND THEN Journaling or no journaling.

ext4-Much faster file system…loads picture gallery photos much faster for example…Orange CWM
RFS-Samsung stock file system…slower…Blue or green CWM

DO EXT4!!…if you are running a custom ROM there is no reason to not use this and I think many will agree.

Journaling is a different story. Kinda in a nutshell I gues.

NO Journaling-claims to a faster version a ROM, but not by much. More likely to have issues with Bootloop if you drop your phone and the battery pops out or the phone dies from no charge…atleast from my experience.
Journaling-Prevents the above from happening in the scenarios and said to be a slower version of the ROM.

  166. Austin says:

I flashed the very first v5.0 available… did that have journaling on or off? Is there a way for me to check?

  167. Eudes says:

    I have midNIGHT_ROM_v5_Standard_Edition_EXT4 which 5.1 I have to upgrade 2?

  168. Sharon says:

OK. I'm on v5 Standard Edition/EXT4 & have no (very few) FCs, and want to upgrade. Should I d/l 5.2 Journaling OFF, or 5.2 Standard? Also, If I d/l 5.2 Journaling OFF, is it necessary to wipe 3x? Either way (wipe or no-wipe), will the installation process restore all of my apps, or do I have to reinstall them?

    • Sharon says:

ok. I installed 5.2 w/o wiping (coming from 5.0 base) & it seems to be working pretty good. My GPS took a minute or two upon reboot to lock, but when I go into "Navigation" it locks almost instantly — guess that's what I will be using. lol
For some reason, while on Navigation, although I have a perfect lock, it still says "Searching for GPS…" any ideas???
Thanks for all of your hard work and effort. It is definitely well appreciated.

would you happen to have (or tell me the file name of) the zip file for the Email App that comes w/4.2? I prefer it over the 5.2 stock email.zip file provided in the Extras folder. I like that you can color the screen in 4.2. Thanks.

  169. Chad says:

Is there anyway to get the stock AOSP lock screen. I Flashed one of your themes and I would just like to see the stock AOSP lock screen. BTW your rom ROCKS!!!!! I've tried them all and this is by far the fastest and best.

  170. lawrence says:

thanks for the great ROMS. It's one of the stables one for me for EC05. For the themes, I don't mind AOSP lock screen on honeycomb, but is there a way to flash a zip for non-vibrate unlock?

  171. GPeterson says:

Rob, I'm on 5.2 currently. If I install one of the themes above (specifically honeycomb battery meter) will it overwrite the boot and shutdown animations?

    • Charles says:

It will not overwrite the animations, I have the exact thing installed :-)

  172. Mike says:

Just want to make sure, im running 5.1 right now, can i just flash the 5.2 upgrade overtop with CWM3?

  173. Flynn says:

I like the bootloader from v5.0 better. does anyone know where I can find it on XDA? A name would help a ton. Its the blue circles that look like fireworks under the android man. Thanks in advance.

  174. Brad says:

    Hi There –

Just moved to midNIGHT 5.2 from another custom ROM = love this! One question I can't find the answer to is why adb doesn't view the phone as rooted?

    adb remount – "remount failed…"

adb root – "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"

I wanted to manually push a custom bootanimation.zip file but the system won't let me. Searching your XDA post didn't seem to have anything related to adb either.

    Any tips?

    • Brad says:

I searched with Google and only found unanswered similar posts, but I ended up finding a solution… I used Z4 root to re-root my phone, then it let me in after a pop-up from SuperUser came up and I accepted.

  175. Sharon says:

I wiped 3x and flashed 5.2 Journal ON over top 5.2 Journal OFF. Can someone tell me if they are experiencing any GPS issues w/this ROM? It sometimes gets stuck in Navigation App w/"Searching for GPS" and I often have to reboot to get it to work. While I am able to get a perfect stick when I launch the Maps App, when I launch other apps that use the GPS (Poynt, Where, etc.), I can't lock get a lock.
Today was the first time I experienced the phone cutting off by itself also.
    Any help??
Does this have to do w/me NOT going back to EC05 before going to 5.2 Journal ON?

  176. Rob says:

For some reason when I am on a phone call, suddenly the other person can't hear me though I can still hear them. I am not sure if this is an Android issue or a midNIGHT ROM issue, but it only started happening in the last couple of weeks.

Is anyone else having this sort of issue?

    • Mike says:

I have had a similar problem ever since I upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2. It has happened once during a call, and twice as its dialing. I can hear the other person on the line, but they can't hear me. Then when I end the call, my phone still shows it connected. Even if i force it closed and redial, I still have the same issue. I have to shutdown and pull the battery to get my connection working again. Its only happened 3 times so far, but its very annoying. I don't know what the cause is or how to reproduce it. Hopefully someone has an answer.

      • jpmorris123 says:

Had it happen once during my week of running 5.2.

        Otherwise good stuff Rob!

        • jpmorris123 says:

I've had this happen twice today. Can't seem to recreate the conditions under which it happens. The only thing I can tell is that it happens first when answering. After that, dialing is affected until the phone is rebooted.

  177. JimH says:

Love the ROM. The only thing i cant do is wireless tethering.

    • Justin says:

Check out the forum post on androidcentral.com under the Epic 4g category. I got my wireless tether working from there.

  178. JimH says:

    thanks…still no luck…

I am trying to download this, but when I click on the links I get a Whitesmoke.exe file rather than the zip files listed. Is there another link?

  181. h16h says:

Any one else getting constant "Error: An error has occured" message. Nothing happens as far as I can see, no apps are crashing as far as I can see, just annoying to see it keep coming up.

    I'm on 5.2 Standard.

  182. Alexis says:

Is there anyway to get just the regular Epic fonts as a flashable zip? I flashed the HTC Thunderbolt ones but I don’t like them. And I really don’t want to flash the entire ROM over.

    • I’ll try to do that today. I have to post the dialer as well. Hopefully tonight ;)

      • Alexis says:

Awesome. You're really awesome! Thanks!! I really appreciate it! :)

  183. christian says:

where do i get the EC05 modem for odin, i have the pit already

  184. lawrence says:

where did you full v5 ROM go? don't we need v5 and then upgrade to v5.2 or are you saying v5.2 is now stand alone ROM? If so why is it called upgrade?

    • These r build your own Rom. The Upgrade is just an option to flash over the base instead of flashing single zps

  185. JimH says:

love this rom. What kernel should i be using

  186. poppntagz says:

Hello, I am currently running MidnightRom v4.2, do I need to odin back to EC05 or just boot into CW3 and flash?

    • You should be just fine….. Nov need to Odin unless u want RfS

  187. poppntagz says:

ok, thanks alot and great ROM

  188. bill says:

I have an issue after upgrading. I can not update prl without getting an error. I also do not have stable signal it drops off and the data is really slow.Any Idea?On a fix?

    • Custom Romisher have that issue

  189. John says:

I'm relatively new to all the different ROMs and have tried several. I would say, without a doubt, this has to be the best ROM out there. Everything works and my battery life is excellent. GREAT job!!! and THANK YOU!

  190. kenny says:

Okay I am willing to do this but have a question. I am on EB13, do i need to odin to 05 before I take the plunge? My cwm is Noobnl’s OneClickRoot w/cw2.5? Or can I switch to Dameon’s OneClickRoot w/cw3.0 for the file system? It seems that the update files pertain to the dameon version of a root or does it not matter?

    • Alex says:

I personally did an OTA update to EC05. I would root with 3.0.

  191. Matt says:

Wow, we are gonna miss you. Thank you for everything that you have done to make us happy with our phones Just wanted to let you know that our hearts and prayers are with you and your family. Wish I would've seen that auction a little sooner, and I would've snatched it with the Buy it Now. Take care and hope to hear see something new from you in the future, will still stop in and check out your blogs. Best of luck……………..

  192. Alex says:

Thank you so much Rob for what you've done for the Android community. I barely got a couple weeks of following you and finally flashing midnight ROM on my Epic. I sincerely hope you come back sooner than later.

  193. kleeman7 says:

If i were to unzip all the apk's i wanted for my BYOR, could i them up and install the one zip?

    • kleeman7 says:

      zip them up*

      • death259 says:

That is correct. What i do is i extract the zip, open the extracted contents, and then copy the APKs back into the original zip.

Extract, then open the original zip (base 5.3 download, or whatever version you are using) in 7zip. Then open the other zip (BYOR, Google Apps, etc) in 7zip. Drag and drop the APKs you want from the other zip into the correct directory in the original zip. This will keep the zip signed, and allow you to use it still. Using this method you will have all of your apps installed from the get go, and you won't have to worry about adding anything else except maybe a theme.

  194. Buzz says:

I take it 6.0 will not work on my EXT4 v5.3?

    • Lost_and_Tired says:

      Correct

  195. Richie says:

i keep getting a netflix error. anyone else getting this?

    • Lost_and_Tired says:

You\’ll need to be more specific. Netflix only works on Gingerbread via wifi

  196. richie says:

activity netflix (in netflix app)not working is the error, and I am running the midnight beta gingerbread, sorry for not beinh more specific earlier

  197. bad bc says:

Netflix just getting a blank screen on mine also.

  198. djgabor says:

The 5.3 BYOR is incredible on the EPIC 4G. Lightning fast and smooth. I will never go back to stock. The only problem I have is with recording video.. it errors out after 5 seconds each time. Other than that, the ROM is flawless for me. Any ideas ?

    • Lost_and_Tired says:

Try v5.4 in the morning. Also backup and format your sdcadd. That usually fixes the video crash

  199. Brad says:

The link to the new rom isn’t working.

  200. Tajhay73 says:

Love your roms by far my favorite having problems downloading 5.5

  201. derrell says:

does anyone else experience crackling sound when touching the screen? not that the touch causes a crackling sound, but that when a sound is playing, touching the screen causes it to crackle?

easy way to reproduce on my handset is going in to choose a ring tone and playing it.. while it is playing, scroll through the other ring tones…

    crackle crackle…

i loaded the new bonsai rom and the issue was gone.

I prefer this ROM however and was hoping someone may be able to provide some insight.

    thanks in advance,
    DS

    • Lost_and_Tired says:

Which ROM are you using? If its the latest GB, probably not much that can be done. Although I have not seen that myself. You could try a reflash, perhaps it was a bad flash…

I know you're working the Samsung Epic Touch now which is nice, just wondering if you're going to update the original Epic ROM with EI22?

    • I plan to attend some point, as my wife is using it as well. However, we may be leaving Sprint due to service issues so I don\’t know when.

      • policeman51 says:

Thanks, I appreciate it. I've been using your ROM since the first day I bought my Epic and I'm not sure if I can trust anyone else's work.

        • Bonsai has a very solid ROM, the best in my opinion. Thank you for the support:-)

    Hi all,

I tried to ODIN my Epic 4G with EFO2 now my phone will not turn on, nor will the red led come on to indicate charge. Is this phone dead?

Is there a way to recover?

    Thanks
