Gavin has his first birthday party
2Gavin will be going to his very first friends birthday party this Friday. This is really the first year that his behavior has been good enough to allow for something like this.
In the past he was far to volatile and was very prone to violence. It was safer for him and everyone else to just avoid these situations.
However, Gavin has made some major behavioral progress this year and we have More >
Survived the week
0Just picked up the boys from school today. They both had great days. Elliott is finally adjusting to the change and Gavin is continuing to do well.
Also spoke with Waterloo Transmission, the home away from home for our….um…awesome van. That’s right, she’s back in the shop yet again.
This time the brakes went out. So far seems like a cheap fix, however the ABS is having problems and More >
Collateral damage
7I want to discuss collateral damage as it relates to accidental injuries. I think that this can be pretty common in families with ASD children.
What do I mean by collateral damage? What I mean is when someone is unintentionally injured as a result of another child’s behavioral challenges.
For this post I’m going to refer to something that happened tonight.

Backwards
19Elliott is extremely intelligent and is advanced in many, many ways. However, he has this thing with putting his shirts on backwards.
I’m puzzled a bit by this and I’m not sure what’s behind it.
It’s not a big deal but I’m curious if any of your kids do the same thing? There are no tags on the shirt so that’s not it. Also, the neck lines are the same as well.
When I ask if I can help More >
Mimicked or inherent behavior
2As many of you are aware of, Elliott was forced to start a new school this year, at the last minute. While I’m very upset over the circumstances of what happened, I truly believe Elliott is far better off where he is now. That said, the transition hasn’t been as smooth as we would have liked. While he’s not having major problems, he is struggling to adjust to the changes. I spoke with his teacher More >
Oh…no he didn’t
3Oh yes he did. Who did what, you may ask? Well, Gavin spit on Elliott. I don’t know what brought that on and frankly, I don’t care. We do not spit on people. That is completely unacceptable in the Lost and Tired house.
Before you ask, no, it wasn’t like he was talking and accidentally spit a little bit. This was actually spitting on his little brother.
I’m not saying Elliott was More >
2nd IgG infusion down
0As I mentioned earlier, I stayed back today in order to watch Emmett. Lizze took Gavin to Akron Children’s Hospital for his 2nd IgG infusion. By all accounts it was a success.
However, Gavin had an accident and wet himself so badly that they sent him home in scrubs. No one is sure what happened there but outside of some concerning movements, he did really well.
He is currently recovering More >
Elliott’s first day was great
1Elliott’s first day at his new school was a resounding success. In fact one of his classmates from his old school is in his class now. He is so excited to see him.
Elliott says he won’t be nervous about going back in the morning. To quote him exactly he said, “it’s cool dad”. Hey, I’ll take that as a positive and more forward.
I’m really glad that worked out… One less thing to worry More >
Prepped and ready to go
1Gavin is prepped and ready to go to his second IgG infusion. About an hour before the infusion is to begin, we apply a cream to Gavin’s skin that will completely numb the area.
This is done so that the experience is as pleasant as possible. He should feel no pain and that will help to make this more of a positive experience for him. We do this at home prior to leaving so that we don’t have to More >
