Getting Fit4Autism
0One of the things that parents of Autistic children do very often is forget to take care of themselves. So I started a team on Endomondo called Fit4Autism. If you have a smart phone chances are you can download the Endomondo app.
Check out my Fit4Autism page at the top for details on how to sign up. The team consists of people from around the world. We have runners, walkers, hikers, bikers, swimmers ect. We all track everything we do both big and small and it adds to the total number of miles the team as a whole has accumulated. We are racking up miles to raise Autism Awareness.
It doesn’t matter what your contribution it because the whole point is to get in better shape so we can be on this earth as long as possible. Our kids will need us there whole life and I fully intend on being there for mine as long as possible. So I push myself and walk about 3 miles a day as regularly as possible. I have more energy and I lose weight as well.
I encourage you ALL to do this for your kids if you won’t do it for yourself. Please join my Fit4Autism endomondo team and get healthy while raising awareness for Autism. Let me k ow if I can answer questions or be of any assistance.

A summer of therapy
4As if we weren’t busy enough already, we now have therapies EVERY SINGLE day of the week. Gavin is restarting OT as well. Actually, Gavin started OT yesterday. Gavin used to be in speech, OT and PT until he was simply to violent. However, Gavin gets those every week at school anyway so all that happened was we were no longer doubling up. The problem is that Gavin is regressing in these areas and since school is out for the summer he would be without these therapies all together. So we had Gavin “re-evaluated”. Turns out Gavin’s muscle tone is actually worse then Emmett’s. Emmett’s is so bad that Eastgate says he needs braces on his lower legs and ankles. I think I forgot to mention that before (I’ll touch more on that in another post). I suspect that Elliott would benefit from OT/PT as well. He will need to be evaluated. Oh…and yesterday, Emmett was referred to a “feeding therapist” because, well, to be honest, I’m not really sure why. That referral came from the Developmental Neurologist.
So basically, this is what our week looks like for this summer (so far).
Monday:
Gavin (OT)
Tuesday:
Emmett (OT)
Emmett (Speech)
Emmett (School)
Elliott (Dr. Patti)
Wednesday:
Gavin (Dr. Patti)
Thursday:
Emmett (OT)
Lizze (Therapy)
Emmett (School)
Friday:
Emmett (Speech)

These are just the reoccurring weekly appointments. This doesn’t include ANYTHING else. This summer we have dozens of other appointments around Northeast Ohio. We will see the following at Akron Children’s Hospital: Gasto, Allergist, Triple P, Developmental Neurologist, Autism Clinic (Gavin and Elliott), Dentist, Nutrition, Feeding Clinic and the Sleep Clinic (Emmett). Then Gavin will be at the Cleveland Clinic for neurological follow ups. Lizze has her own laundry list of appointments this summer as well, pain management, psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist and “hopefully” a second opinion at the Cleveland Clinic is we’re lucky.
So we have a VERY busy summer so far solely based on the health related appointments alone. My goal is to work back up to walking 30 miles per week. My blood pressure is high and my cholesterol is out of whack. The stress is taking it’s toll. I want to lose 50 lbs by the end of the year. That’s roughly 10 lbs a month and I think that’s pretty realistic considering all the walking I will be doing. You can join my Fit4Autism team on Endomondo.com. It’s free and we are racking up miles to raise awareness and improve our health. I lost a lot of weight last summer but then gained some of it back when I couldn’t escape long enough to walk and my eating habits were, we’ll just say, not the best. So that is my focus this summer. I want to get healthier for not only my kids but myself.

That’s a wrap…..
0Well today went off without much of a hitch. Lizze is good. The boys are good. Maggie survived ALL day alone and I made it home in one piece.
Toothless gets his new order of crickets in the morning and I have some chores around the house to do. I’m hoping Lizze will sleep most of the day and rest up for her return trip home. I want to thank our parents for watching the boys. I also want to thank Dr.D and Aultman Hospital for their excellant care of my wife.
I would also like to Thank all of you for the Tweets, posts and comments today and everyday. I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers. You all all amazing….. Thanksgiving again…..
Lizze I love you please get some sleep and call if you need anything. My phone is on……

WE NEED A BREAK
2We need a break. We haven’t had a break in as long as I can remember. We don’t sleep or ever just get to relax. Gavin has been having more and more problems and Emmett has become extremely difficult to manage. Speaking for myself, I feel I’m losing my mind. We can’t be expected to keep this up forever. There has to be help out there. We can’t keep struggling to keep the kids from hurting themselves because our house is not set up for special needs children, one of these times someone is going to get hurt. Emmett has already broken his nose and fallen down the steps twice. No matter how much we try to keep ahead of them we just cannot seem to do that. Honestly, majority of our of our time is literally spent chasing after Emmett and defusing Gavin.
Lizze and I have been married 7 years now and haven’t had a night alone in at least 4 years. We need a break. We need time to ourselves. We need this before we break.
Weekend Update
0Gavin and Elliott spent the night at Grandmas house this weekend. Sounds like they had a great time and got a sorta break.
I say sorta break cause it was a very busy weekend for us. Our washer died and I spent Satuarday at the laundrymat doing about 15 loads of laundry. I was able to cram them into about 10 loads. We had gotten behind on laundry so this was only about half of what actually needs done. Lizze spent hours sorting everything so I could take them to get cleaned. Now we have to either fix or replace our washer.
The van is also going back into the shop to have the exhaust repaired. We have a break right behind the converter and are getting exhaust jn the car and we can’t have that. I have to take her in on Monday for a few hours. Hopefully that will be it forvthe van for a while.
I walked 6 miles this afternoon in about 1.5 hours. My time is getting better and I’m pushing myself a bit more. This was my first time out since I was sick last week. I’m doing between 20 and 30 miles a week and for me that amazing. I have even started running. As I get more confident in my in my recovery (from my major back injury) I will push myself to run more.
Gavin has Monday off and that should be loads of fun. I hope all of you have a great week.
General Update
0Today has been just a bad day. It started out rough and ended rough. Gavin is becoming more and more of a handful. The impact he is having on Elliott is very profound. Gavin is dragging Elliott into his imaginary world. He is teaching Elliott that these things are real by his example. I don’t know how to find balance. I don’t know how to allow us all to coexist without unneeded fallout.
Things are becoming more and more difficult to handle. Lizze has given so much of herself that I think she has lost a sense of who she is. It’s a real struggle to try to be what everyone needs all the time but she has done that selflessly for so long that she has forgotten how to take care of herself. I am real proud of her because she has been doing her best to walk. I know it’s hard for her to do that.
Got to go… Gavin is moving around….
