Emmett’s off to the pediatrician

Emmett, as I mentioned earlier, is in the beginning stages of a Marshall’s Syndrome flare up. He is also complaining that his ear hurts as well. For this reason, Lizze got him in to see the pediatrician around 5pm.

They can’t do anything about the flare up but we want to make sure he doesn’t have an ear infection as well.

Because we have not yet figured out how to be in two places at the same time, we are forced to divide and conquer. Grandma is coming to pick up Lizze and Emmett and take them to the doctors. I will be taking Gavin and Elliott to therapy at roughly the same time.

These surprise appointments tend to pop up in our lives. Thankfully, we have family that is eager and willing to help us out. Whether it’s watching the boys or actually providing the transportation, we are very lucky in that respect. :-)

Moving right along

Today has been pretty busy.  Lizze has had a pretty rough day as she is on week 8 +  of her migraine (I believe).  There doesn’t appear to be any end in sight.  They can do another headache infusion in December but that’s still a ways off. I wish there was something I could do to take her pain away.

I took some more pictures throughout the day and I thought I would tell you a bit about each one rather then a separate post for each event. I’m simply to tired and tonight was not much fun. So I thought I would do this a bit differently.

Maggie is in hyper-vigilance mode since all of the recent events have take place.  She spends a good part of her day just watching for trouble out the window. She spent the part of her day today, puking up bits and pieces of my couch. Apparently, eating my couch the other day didn’t agree with her. She’s okay though. :-)

Gavin had OT, Speech and PT again today. One of the things they had him doing today was walking in flippers. This helps him to do the whole heal/toe thing. Basically, it forces him to pick his feet up when he walks instead of scuffing them on the ground. He did great but was a little self conscience about how he looked in the flippers. Also, during speech, he was practicing back and forth conversation with his therapist and sorta got personal. He started asking his therapist if she was married and had any kids. When she answered him no, he asked if she had a boyfriend.

It was really cute and quite likely innocent in nature. She was asking about him and so he began asking about her. We all got a little kick out of it. :-)
imageSadly, it appears that Mr. Elliott Richard may have an ear infection. He was running a low grade fever this evening and complaining about his ear hurting. He will be home from school as well as visiting the doctor in the morning to make sure he is doing okay. He’s really nervous about going because he just received his flu shot and it’s still fresh in his mind. We are once again, camping out in the living room so he’s more comfortable. I will squish our couches together and we will snuggle and listen to music, probably some Acoustic4Autism. Maggie will sleep at my feet and periodically get up and look out the window, just to make sure all is well.

Last but certainly not least, Emmett and I cleaned out his aquarium this morning. He really likes to help care for his fish and so I totally encourage that. We siphoned out the gravel and drained the water at the same time. We filled the tank back up and treated the water. We also replaced the filter and then fed them. We have to straighten things up a bit in the morning but he did a great job helping.

Back to Akron Children’s Hospital 9/01/2011

We are at the Ear,  Nose and Throat doctor (ENT). We are meeting to discuss the next step for Emmett with these chronic fevers likely related to PFAPA.

We are expecting to hear that his tonsils and adenoids need to be removed.  Hopefully it’s not going to need to be done but we have already been told it’s the next likely step.

Fun.. Fun

My heads about to explode

For whatever reason Emmett has been screaming ALL morning. When I say sreaming, I mean ear piercing and headache inducing screaming. I have no idea what’s behind this but we need to figure it out. I don’t know if he’s in pain or just overwhelmed. This is when I find the speech and language delays to be the most frustrating. I want to help him but I don’t know how because he can’t tell me what’s wrong. Helpless doesn’t quite say it….

I couldn’t resist this one…sorry Mom

It’s not very often that I post off topic things like this but tonight I’m making an exception. This had me cracking up and boy did I need it. It’s been a rough day. I’ll fill you all in later. For now. have a good laugh. I’m sure many of us, special needs parents or not can relate to this. Not that we would EVER think anything like this though :)

DISCLAIMER:

Alright. PLEASE make sure your kids ARE NOT within ear shot of this one. A friend on mine posted this on Facebook and I think it’s pretty funny. PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT kid appropriate.  You have been warned…

Things Elliott Says….

Elliott was trying to pee this morning. When he left the bathroom he came into my bedroom to give me a hug and kiss. As he was hugging me he wispered in my ear “daddy I forgot to wash my hands” as his hands are on my face. To which I respond with Elliott Richard get your “pee hands” off my face, jokingly.

So we are clear I said “pee hands”. Well Elliott giggled ad ran out to go wash his hands. He ran into Lizze along the way and said mommy guess what daddy said. Lizze says “Elliott what did your daddy say”. Elliott is walking out of the bathroom. He giggles and says “daddy told me to get my PENIS of his face”…..sigh… I looked at Elliott and said “PEE HANDS”, Elliott, “PEE HANDS”. Awkward much….Funny but awkward……

An Afternoon with My Wife

Guest post written by Clint Taylor

This weekend, I set out to spoil my wife of 30 years. We still live in New York, after all this time, and I still take her shopping on Fifth Avenue and some of the finer places around. You think after years and years of shopping that my wife would want to pursue some other things, but not this woman. It still gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing that I can make her happy, and nothing makes you feel more special than a gift every now and then! I have always taken pride in knowing that not only did I provide for my family over the years, I really indulged them so that they never had to feel what it was like to go wanting. My immediate family had a lot of financial troubles when I was growing up, and I am just glad that I didnÕt get stuck in that particular economic situation forever.

After I took my wife shopping, I decided to stick to errands get some new Digital Hearing Aids from Miracle Ear. This weekend was pretty simple, but it did remind me of how fortunate we are that we have never gone wanting.
