Progress on the surgery front…maybe
0I spoke with our Aultman hospital about what was going on and asked if they would be willing to work with me on payments. I explained what Mercy had quoted about $12,000 for the surgery and about $700/month
in payments if we self pay. The patient account rep I spoke with said that a bill that size would about $100/month as far as payments are concerned. So now I have Dr. D’s office calling to More >
Lizze and the surgery debacle……
1Alright.. The surgery is a go for Friday, however, insurance isn’t. We will have to appeal it later but she needs this done. We will have to use tax return to cover a portion of the fee’s so we can be set up on a payment plan. This is an acceptable outcome. I wanted to do whatever we had to in order to get her relief. No one should have to live in pain when it can be helped. We have 3 doctors More >
Autism and bridging the communication gap…
0The most difficult part of having a non-verbal (or pre-verbal) child on the spectrum is finding a way to communicate. People take communication for granted. Imagine if you were hungry or scared and you couldn’t ask for help. That is what Emmett experiences all day every day. We have been working on sign language and it’s starting to take. Emmett will ask for “more, please” without being reminded More >
30 secs in my world……
8Here is what many families with Autistic children hear very often. In my case, this is what wakes me up at 5am every morning. I can only guess at what causes this but it goes on for an hour or more sometimes. When he is like this he is inconsolable. I have no idea how to help him when he is like this. He typically will not tolerate being touched at this point. I would think this is a result of More >
I’m soooooo tired…..
0So I got up this morning at 5am to a screaming Emmett. I got him back to sleep for about 10 minutes till I got sick (stress), Then I cried for a bit cause I missed my wife and I was completely overwhelmed. I took the kids over to my parents house and did some running around. I had to go to Sprint (more on that later) and Best Buy. Then to the post office and then to fill the 5 gallon water jugs. More >
This is what psychotic is for Gavin…..
1Psychotic simply means losing touch with reality. We all see things on TV about psychotic people but in our “real life” dealings with psychosis this is largely what we find. This is a brief video of a conversation I had with Gavin before Emmett interrupted. It’s really easy to say this is just his imagination but it goes so far beyond that. He truly doesn’t know that these things are not real. He More >
Gavin Update…..Tough Decisions…
1We haven’t heard back yet from Dr. R…. I don’t know if Lizze and I should just make a decision and go?
After all the redness on Gavin’s head went away there are no visible marks. So that’s a good thing. Is that enough of a reason to not take him? He seems perfectly fine now, like nothing ever happened (which is extremely frustrating, because everyone else is still dealing with the stress that More >
