The bands back together

Today is Gavin‘s first day back. So far so good.  We actually have all three boys home today because the school is going on a field trip to the roller rink.

Because of how poorly Gavin‘s body coped with the martial arts promotion, roller skating had to be out of the question. It sucks but it’s just not worth the risk right now.

Elliott didn’t want to go roller skating so we kept him home as well.

Lizze and I kinda had to laugh because one would think that roller skating would be very difficult for kids who tend to struggle with coordination already. That’s the case with my boys anyways.

Elliott did push through his fear yesterday and went through with martial arts promotion and even broke a board with his fist.  I’m so proud of him. He also has decided to go forward with the Christmas show as well.

We had no problems letting him skip the roller skating.  A big part of the reason he didn’t want to go was because Gavin couldn’t go.  He wanted to stay home and support his big brother.  I’m okay with that as well.  :-)

I’m going to spend today putting together a very ridged schedule, so Gavin is more or less contained inside a time block and is basically occupied.

I’m also going to focus heavily on the Martial Arts Creed that Gavin must follow as a person practicing the Martial Arts.

Below is a picture of the Martial Arts Creed.  I think it pretty much covers all the bases.  If he stays focused on that, we should do pretty well, hopefully anyway.

On a positive but unrelated note.  My blog is online today.  Blue host seems to have fixed the server issues from yesterday.  Hopefully, they can keep things online going forward…..

Pictures with Santa 2012

In a bid to help provide the boys with some normalcy and focus on the Christmas season, we took the boys to see Santa Clause.

They weren‘t really sure about things at first but they did warm up to Santa once he began talking about what they wanted for Christmas.

Common Ground

One of the issues I see in the #Autism community is that instead of standing together as one,  cohesive unit,  we allow ourselves to be fragmented by our differences.

Personally,  I find this to be heartbreaking. This can lead to unpleasant things and takes our focus off of what truly matters the most,  our children.

I thought it would be nice if we introduce ourselves to each other and share a bit about our personal stories.  I feel that when we get to know each other on a more personal level and see how much we all have in common,  we will see that we aren’t that different after all.

Please,  if your comfortable,  introduce yourself in the comments below.

Feel free to tell us as much or as little as you would like.  This is a great way to focus on what makes us teammates instead of enemies.   :-)

God grant me Serenity

I don’t remember when I actually got this.  It was a long time ago but it’s probably my most frequently used material possession,  aside from my phone.

I have this on the wall, positioned so that I see it every time I come down the steps in the morning,  or walk into the kitchen. It’s meant to be a constant reminder to always keep perspective. I can’t say how well it works all the time but it does help to remind me that some things are simply outside of my control and that I should focus on those this that I have power or control over.

I just thought I would share this with you all.  I’m not overly religious and I’m certainly not preachy.  I just think this is a great reminder and I think it crosses religious boundaries and is applicable to many people.

The Lighter Side of #Autism: 05/03/2012

With all the negative the Lost and Tired family faces each day, I’m trying to focus on The Lighter Side of #Autism.

I don‘t think this needs any explanation but I will say that weighted blankets can work wonders.

Worried about your child with Autism wandering/running

Hey everyone, I need some help. As you know, wandering is a very serious problem when it comes to children on the Autism Spectrum. I have been speaking with someone that wants to help. You can help by participating in a brief phone interview. They are developing a device that can significantly increase the odds of a very fast recovery. I have have been consulting on this solution and I’m very, very impressed and I truly believe this will make a difference.

Right now there is a need for a pseudo focus group and opinion gathering. This would take place over the phone and require 15-20 minutes of your time. They are looking for parents with kids in various places on the Autism Spectrum, but with a focus on parents with concerns and/or experience with children that wander or run away.

All information is confidential and will be used for the development of this device.

I hardly ever do anything like this, so this is truly an exceptional device. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t believe this could help. If your interested in participating, please contact me and provide me with the following information:

email address
a good contact number
best time to be reached
whether or not you are worried and/or experienced with wandering/running

Thanks you very much

Lost and Tired in 2012

Happy New Year everyone.  I hope it went well for all of you. I thought I would make the first post of 2012 relate to what this year has in store.
I have many plans for this year.  Some involving my blog and many more involving my family.

One of my main goals this year is going to be relocating my family to a safer area.  That will be a huge undertaking and finding a new home will be challenging as I can already attest to.

Something else that will happen this is getting a better understanding of what Gavin is suffering from.  I’m hoping 2012 will bring with it some much needed answers. I also pray that Gavin’s deterioration comes to a halt as well.

We will be finding Emmett a new school. This will require us to battle the local school district.  When it comes to my kids,  I’m not someone they want to mess with.  I’m highly educated,  I know my rights and if push comes to shove, I have a really good attorney.

I have some big things planned for my blog as well.  Some things I have made public and others I haven’t yet.

One of those things is Android4Autism.  This is something very near and dear to my heart.  My goal is to finally have this up and running in 2012. However,  my family will come first and can and will likely cause delays.

I want to focus on my health this year as well.  I want to lose weight and bring my cholesterol back into balance.  With all the stress is endure on a daily basis,  I need to make sure my body can cope.

I also want to focus on finding Lizze some relief from her constant pain and help her to regain her life back or at least as much of it as she can.

I will be spending lots of time with Elliott this year as well. I want to make sure he doesn’t get lost in the shuffle and continues to move forward.

Right now,  those are my main goals for the year.  Some will likely not happen,  while others will.  Things are always changing here in the Lost and Tired family,  so things may need to shift around a bit as new things come up.

What are your plans for the new year?
