A morning filled with good choices

I have to give Elliott mad props this morning because he got himself ready for school, ate breakfast and took his meds without a single issue.

There are many mornings where everything is a complete disaster a d we get little to no cooperation.

Today however, Elliott showed us all, just how awesome he can do.

On a day frought with grief, as services for Lizze’s Aunt are this afternoon, this was a great start to the day.  Great work Elliott, we’re very proud of you.  :-)

Not off to a good start

Elliott and Emmett have been at each others throats this morning.  I’m talking literally nose to nose.

We have also be bathed in screaming and yelling as well.  Gavin on the other hand is still behaving pretty well. We’re working group on some boundary issues but overall, he’s doing well so far.

The stress of him being home however, seems to be impacting get everyone, regardless of his actual behaviors.

I’m really hoping to get our routine implemented and merged with the school schedule this weekend.  This will help to smooth things out a bit

At this point, I’d be happy to just see an end to the fighting.  :-(

Fun Fact of The Day

Despite how pleasant the books make Green Smoothies sound, I assure you, they are as nasty as they look.

I started with Green Smoothies this morning.  I’m experienced with smoothies but Green Smoothies are a different beast all together.

Green Smoothies in my experience, need to be chugged, not sipped and certainly not enjoyed.

They are however, extremely good for you.

Promotion day at Summit Academy

This morning Gavin will be receiving a promotion in martial arts. In the afternoon, Elliott will be receiving his as well. It’s going to be a busy but exciting day

Gavin always looks forward to promotion, so he’s probably pretty stoked about this right now.

Elliott on the other hand, doesn‘t want to go. He would rather go to his OT appointment instead. I’m not sure what we’re going to do. However, I think we are leaning towards canceling OT and pushing forward with promotion.

I’ll take plenty of pictures.

I’m so proud of Elliott

I wanted to mention this because hopefully, it’s a good sign for what the rest of the week will be like.

Elliott has been struggling with life lately.  As a little boy with aspergers and significant anxiety, he’s unable to cope well with everything that has been happening within our life

He’s still upset about Gavin not living with us right now and understandably so. His recent diagnosis of food allergies as eliminated a huge part of his diet because it contains tree nuts.

What happens is that Elliott copes with this by trying to exert as much control over his life as possible. This presents as refusal to do things like eating and even cooperating.

Lately, we have been having a really hard time getting him ready for school.  He will flat out refuse to get dressed and most morning‘s results in a pretty big meltdown. As I’m sure you can imagine, this isn’t a positive way to start the day.

Having said that, today Elliott was up, dressed and cooperative.

This hasn’t happened in the last couple of weeks.

Elliott went off to school in a good mood.  I’m not sure what was behind this but I’m grateful for it.  I hated having to battle with any of my kids.  Unfortunately, that sometimes goes along with being a parent.

However, I’m grateful beyond words that I didn’t have to do this today.

It’s been a rough weekend for everyone and this was a well deserved, peaceful start to the week. I’m really proud of Elliott for making good choices this morning:-)

I made sure to let him know that as well.

I took a trip back in time

I got a call from my Dad this morning.  He was letting me know that he thinks my old dog had a stroke last night. I got Rogue back in 2000 right before I started paramedic school.

When I met Lizze and moved out, Rogue stayed behind because they didn’t want to part with her.
Sadly, I suspect that she will be put to rest on Monday. She’s in really bad shape and has lost control over the right side of her body over night. She basically falls over when she trys to walk and is drooling uncontrollably.

She seems completely disoriented and has stopped eating as well.

She’s 13 years old and at this point, her quality of life is not very high. Honestly, I would suspect that she’s too old to really recovery from something like this.

I spent some time over there this morning and reminisced about when I first brought her home from work and went for a walk down memory lane.

It’s sad because she was a big part of my life for a very long gone time and was my first dog.

You hate to say goodbye but no one ever said that doing the right thing was easy. I suppose that we will know more for sure in the morning when the vet opens.  I will say that I take comfort in the fact that she doesn’t appear to be in any pain at all.

December is turning out to be a pretty crappy month.

Good spirits but lots of pain

Sadly, Lizze was not feeling well enough to attend her family’s annual Christmas party. She spent all she had taking the kids to see Santa.

The kids actually slept until 7am this morning, which is unheard of.

Lizze is in a great deal of pain already today.  However, she’s in good spirits, which I can’t imagine is easy to accomplish when one is in that much pain.

I so admire her courage and fortitude.  She just keeps pushing on, no matter what.

Hopefully, she’ll feel better as the day goes on, Lord knows she deserves it.
