Tuesday Therapy: Thank God it’s over

Today was once again, Therapy Tuesday.  Every Tuesday, we cram a crap load of therapies in for the boys.

Doing it this way is exhausting but the boys love Tuesdays and it frees us up for all the other various appointments that pop up throughout the week.

As much as I enjoy watching the boys in therapy, I am sooooooo glad that this is it for today,  we’ll almost.

We had Dr. Patti tonight and the boys spent some time with her while Lizze and I hung out on the other side of the room.
Someone,  I won’t say who okay’d yo yo’s out of the treasure closet after the appointment.  Friggin yo yo’s.

Does she hate me or something? Yo yo’s are worse than slinkies when it comes to having to constantly fix the tangled strings.

I must have wronged her somehow and this is her passive aggressive way of getting even.  :-P

Either way, all we have left tonight is dinner and bedtime.  Thank God because I’m so friggin exhausted I could go to sleep now and still sleep in.

Gavin got his hair cut yesterday.  I’m sorry but I can’t help but think of Children of the Corn.

The only thing missing from this picture is a little table to my left, complete with a Corona.  Oh, and the rest of the picture would have an ocean and beach.

Leaving school early

The school year has just begun and already the schedule is getting a bit crazy. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s,  we have to pick the boys up from school 30 minutes early.

We then have to race to get 2 of the 3 boys to speech and occupational therapy.

I hate that we have to pull the kids out early, in order to get her to therapy.  I especially dislike having to pull them out on their first day back. :-(

However, at least their able to go to ther. apy and the school is working with us.. It could always be worse.

Wednesday Occupational Therapy and Speech: 08/08/2012

Emmett had therapy this afternoon. He did awesome once again. He is so excited to be back that he can’t decide what he wants to do.

He lost a great deal of strength during the 4 month insurance based banishment from the help he so desperately needs.

It’s going to be an uphill journey to get back where he was but I know without a doubt that between Emmett’s tenacity and the dedicated staff at Concorde Kids,  he’ll get there.

Tuesday Occupational Therapy and Speech: 08/07/2012

Elliott and Gavin had therapy this afternoon. I’ve been running around like crazy all morning.  However,  we made it to Concorde Kids with time to spare.

Elliott and Gavin both did really well.  Elliott was even patient while he waited his turn.

After therapy finished up,  we left to pick up Ms. Bella for the vet.  I’ll let you know how that went on another post.

The boys really love going to Concorde Kids and really benefit from the therapy.

The return to progress

Emmett made his triumphant return to occupational and speech therapies today. To say he was excited would be the understatement of the century.

He would only allow me to take him today. I don’t know what that was all about but he was insistent.

I would like to thank Buckeye Community Health Plan for causing Emmett to lose 4 months worth of progress. He has lost a significant amount of muscle tone while they sat on their thumbs for almost 120 days and simply didn’t process the paperwork.  Idiots…..

However,  I’m so excited that he’s back now that I’m moving passed my anger and  frustration.  I’m looking to the future. It was funny because his therapists weren’t sure who was more excited,  me or Emmett.

He did a fantastic job and worked really hard.  He even wrote his own name,  for the very first time.

That is friggin awesome.

I can’t wait for him to return next week and continue making progress.

This was by far,  the highlight of my week.  :-)

#Autism, occupational therapy and “catching whales”

Elliott had is 3rd session of occupational therapy this afternoon.  He absolutely loves it.  He does so well and it’s proving to be a fantastic outlet for him.

Today, he tried something new.

This new exercise was called catching whales.   Basically,  he sat in this plastic boat and pulled this weighted punching bag type thing into the boat.

He did awesome and really enjoyed the workout.  Honestly,  he did awesome with all the exercises.

I’m so incredibly grateful that he has this opportunity to learn and grow.  :-)

Kissing therapy goodbye

Gavin had therapy today and I have a really bad feeling that it will be his last,  at least for awhile.

Gavin was getting really dizzy,  to the point of panic today.

That’s never happened before.

I had the heart rate monitor on him but he’s so friggin skinny it kept falling off,  so I don’t know what his heart rate was doing.

I just don’t know how safe this is for him,  at least for the immediate future. We’re going to have to speak to neurology ASAP.  We really need to figure this out.

He needs the therapy but not when his health is so unstable.

This really sucks…..
