#Autism, Seizures and EEG’S: Elliott explained
0Alright, we have received clarification as to what the heck is on with Elliott. Elliott is experiencing some abnormal electrical activity, however, they are not seizures.
It was explained to us that kids on the #Autism spectrum are at a higher risk for seizures activity anyway. However, in Elliott’s case, the abnormalities are not producing actual seizures. They also said that he may More >
#Autism, Seizures and EEG’S: When it’s not seizures
0In some incredible, bizarre twist of fate, the doctor met with Lizze just a few minutes ago and told her that it turns out Elliott is not, I repeat, NOT having seizures…At least not during this test.
He explained that what was happening was not seizures but instead Elliott’s body expending excess energy. That’s what is likely causing the shaking and tremors as well.
What I don’t know is More >
Today’s Victory: 04/05/2012
2Today’s Victory goes out to Mr. Emmett John. Today was a big step forward. He decided that he wanted to make his own lunch this afternoon.
He actually made himself a turkey sandwich, all by himself. He doesn’t like bread and ended up only eating the turkey, however, he’s got the right idea.
So very proud of you Emmett

#Autism, Seizures and EEG’s: Elliott has begun his 24 hour EEG
0Lizze and Elliott have begun the 24 hour EEG a little while ago. The EEG almost didn’t happen. If Gavin had been hospitalized last night, especially in Youngstown, the EEG would have had to be rescheduled.
This afternoon, Elliott began with a fever, literally minutes before walking out the door.
After consulting with the neurology department at Akron Children’s Hospital, it was decided More >

0This post is not intended to start an argument but instead bring us all together so help solve a serious problem. Parents shouldn’t be judged for either vaccinating or choosing not to vaccinate. Instead of fighting, perhaps we could work together to find solutions to these vaccine related concerns.
The truth is that some kids are seriously injured by vaccines. However, not vaccinating your More >

Managing a behavioral crisis: We’re home
5I’m really tired but I wanted together you all know what happened. The quick and dirty version is that Gavin is home again. They had no beds available and our only option would be a treatment facility that was about 90 minutes away. We opted to forgo that for several reasons. One being we physically, couldn’t afford the trip but the other being it would be pointless to send him at this point. More >
Managing a behavioral crisis: 04/04/2012
13Please be aware that we are in the midst of handling a behavioral crisis with Gavin. We are in the process getting Gavin a psychiatric evaluation at Akron Children’s Hospital. He may actually be admitted to the psychiatric unit once again. There is a great deal of time spent just waiting right now so I want to document the process so that you can experience some of what we are going through More >
#Autism: The challenge of eye contact
7While I was out walking yesterday, something occurred to me. There is something to be said about the difficulties of making eye contact, even for the neurotypical person.
For whatever reason, I never made the connection until yesterday, but it’s really not that easy to make eye contact, especially with strangers.
I know that as a parent to three boys on the spectrum, I always encourage More >
