Please keep Emmett in your thoughts and prayers

I mentioned the other day that Emmett was just beginning another fever flare. He’s got mouth sores now and they are beginning to get pretty big.

Emmett is obviously miserable and that makes for a very challenging situation.

You can see one of these sores in the picture below.  No one has been able to identify the actual cause of this. Right now it’s labeled as PFAPA, which is a rare fever disorder.

The fever part has gotten better this year, however, the mouth sores have gotten worse.

If you could please just keep Emmett in your thoughts and prayers over the next 10 days or so, I would really appreciate it.

Hello fever flare

Emmett is entering into another fever flare.  He appears to have the beginnings of several mouth sores.  This would explain why he’s been so grumpy.

I hope that this flare will be quick and as painless as possible.

Good News/Bad News

We got some good news today from the immunologist in regards to Emmett.  You may remember that he recently had a follow up appointment and there was concern that Emmett may have herpes and something called Natural Killer Cells.

The doctor was concerned that Emmett may have somehow contracted Herpes and that these cycles were more like outbreaks and the sores in his mouth were actually brought on by the Herpes simplex virus.

In a rare,  positive twist of fate, it turns that we know for sure that Emmett doesn’t have Herpes.  That’s awesome..  We had no idea where that would have come anyways.

He also doesn’t have whatever the heck that Natural Killer Cells thing either.

I’m thrilled to get this news,  I really am.  However,  much like a backhanded compliment this also comes with bad news as well.

While we have ruled out our 4 year old having Herpes and another immune issue, that fact remains that we still don’t know what is causing these mouth sores.

I suppose we’re at least narrowing things down by eliminating possibilities but still…..

The spike

Well,  Emmett hasn’t had an actual fever flare in quite some time.  He has instead mostly gotten the mouth sores alone.

However, this time he’s definitely spiking a fever and is miserable.

I have to run out and get some more advil to control the fever.  I hope this cycle goes quickly and doesn’t drag out the usual 10 days.

Please keep Emmett in your thoughts and prayers again

Emmett has started another fever cycle. I should probably have another name for this because it’s less fever and more mouth sores. This explains why he’s been so difficult lately. I feel so bad for him and I wish there was something we could do besides advil or Tylenol. He does eat and drink coconut milk products which helps but he’s just miserable. He’s okay when he’s distracted but when he’s like this, the combination of him and Elliott is explosive. We most likely have at least a week left to help him through this before the cycle ends. :-(

Please keep Emmett in your thoughts and prayers

Emmett’s current flare up is just not letting up.  In fact,  it’s actually getting worse. You can see some of the sores in the picture below.

They are incredibly painful and freakishly large.

These are all over the inside of his mouth and needless to say,  he is absolutely miserable. :-(

A face full of boogers

I mentioned in recent post that Emmett is currently inside of a flare up. His mouth has the sores still and they are quite painful.

The flare has yet to run its course and now he has a pretty nasty cold.

He sneezed this morning and ended up with a face full of boogers. That of course was instant sensory overload for him as that is a huge trigger for him.

The only thing that he will eat during a flare up is the extremely over priced, coconut milk ice cream.  That was on my to do list this morning.

He loves this stuff and it’s pretty healthy,  considering it’s ice cream.

The downside is that it’s $6 a pint. That aside,  it’s really good.  :-)   I’ve been known to sneak a taste now and then..  Shh

I was wondering if you have ever tried this with your kids?
