Elliott’s work of art: 04/03/2012

3

Elliott came home from school today after another fantastic day. He was more excited than usual to get into the door.  He wanted to show me what he made in school today.

He made a caterpillar out of a clothes pin and some little puffy balls….oh..and a set of googly eyes.

We had to fix an eye that fell off but Mommy came to the rescue with some glue and all was right in his world again. He More >

#Autism, Animals and Independence

I wanted to share with you all another victory Emmett has experienced since getting his puppy, Bella. Bella is a Boxer puppy and Emmett’s new best friend. Our hope was that she would help to bring Emmett out of himself a little bit and we could continue to make some forward progress. I wanted to empower Emmett with a sense of independence, as well as responsibility. So far, Bella has not only More >

#Dysautonomia: Houston we have an appointment

0

I got through to the Cleveland Clinic this morning and was able to make Gavin’s appointment for an evaluation for Dysautonomia.

We have to wait about 30 days but at least we got the appointment.

We will return,  once again to the Cleveland Clinics main campus on May 4th.  While we are there,  I’m going to get Gavin’s records to Akron Children’s Hospital,  so he can see the Mitochondrial More >

#Autism: How I manage a meltdown and self-injurious behavior

6

The Lost and Tired family is once again struggling with daily meltdowns and ever increasing self-injurious behaviors. This is one of my very least favorite things to deal with because there is no clear cut right or wrong answer. As my son gets older and stronger, the severity of these meltdowns and self-injurious behaviors becomes greater and greater. We have been coping with severe meltdowns and More >

Lost and Tired, overwhelmed and STRESSED

1

One of the things that I know a lot of people don’t get,  is the sheer amount of stress that can go along with special needs parenting.

I’m only speaking for myself I this particular case but I’m sure my words echo that of many others.

One of the biggest issues that I face,  while trying to keep that Lost and Tired family moving forward,  is stress.  I’m not talking about stress,  I’m talking More >

Welcome to meltdown central

1

Let me tell you, Lost and Tired family has become meltdown central today. I’ve honestly lost track of how many  meltdowns we’ve had so far is afternoon. Gavin just got done having a colossal meltdown, Elliott’s been super whiney all day long.

Don’t even get me started on my little Emmett John.  He is the world’s most talented instigator.  He will push your buttons and drive you crazy,  all while More >

A new journey begins: Dysautonomia

The Lost and Tired family begins a new journey

Do you ever have one of those days where you realize something and it pretty much turns your life upside down? If you have, than you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, trust me when I tell you it sucks. I posted earlier about a conversation I had with Gavin’s teachers this morning. I thought it was very productive and his teachers were very More >

Nothing EVER goes as planned, ever

3

I had a 45 minute discussion with Gavin’s teachers this morning to make sure we were all on the same page.  Gavin is continuing to decompensate and I needed to update them on the seizures,  medications and what is currently going on.

Basically,  Gavin getting sick after breakfast at school.  By sick I mean nauseous.   I know what he’s eating and it shouldn’t be a problem.

We aren’t seeing this More >

#Autism statistics: What’s the point?

8

Admittedly,  I have been out of touch for most of the day but I know that the new #Autism statistics have been released.  The numbers are pretty scary if you ask me.

However,  I just have to ask, what’s the point?

I mean,  as soon as the new DSM is released and the new criteria takes affect,  those numbers will no longer be accurate.  Does that make sense?

Are they looking to sorta cook the More >
