#Autism: The challenge of eye contact
7While I was out walking yesterday, something occurred to me. There is something to be said about the difficulties of making eye contact, even for the neurotypical person.
For whatever reason, I never made the connection until yesterday, but it’s really not that easy to make eye contact, especially with strangers.
I know that as a parent to three boys on the spectrum, I always encourage More >
Three days of chaos
0The next three days are going to be crazy. Beginning in a few hours, both Emmett and Elliott will be at Speech and OT. Well actually, Emmett will be at speech and Elliott will finally have his OT evaluation. This has been a long time coming and all I can say is, thank God it’s here, because he friggin’ needs it.
Elliott has a difficult time writing or coloring for any extended amount of More >
#Autism, Animals and Independence
0I wanted to share with you all another victory Emmett has experienced since getting his puppy, Bella. Bella is a Boxer puppy and Emmett’s new best friend. Our hope was that she would help to bring Emmett out of himself a little bit and we could continue to make some forward progress. I wanted to empower Emmett with a sense of independence, as well as responsibility. So far, Bella has not only More >

Nothing EVER goes as planned, ever
3I had a 45 minute discussion with Gavin’s teachers this morning to make sure we were all on the same page. Gavin is continuing to decompensate and I needed to update them on the seizures, medications and what is currently going on.
Basically, Gavin getting sick after breakfast at school. By sick I mean nauseous. I know what he’s eating and it shouldn’t be a problem.
We aren’t seeing this More >
The lighter side of #Autism: Me and my minion
0I wanted to share another view of what I call, the lighter side of #Autism, Seizures at least as far as the Lost and Tired family is concerned.
We experience a lot of the drama, anxiety and complications that can come along with Autism. I feel that I share those experiences quite openly and honestly.
The truth of the matter is that even I can get caught up in all of the less than pleasant More >
One giant step for Gavin, One giant leap for independence
4I meant to share this this the other day but I have just been to under the weather and forgot. However, I think this is worth mentioning.
While Lizze was at the pediatrician’s, and with Elliott and Emmett, Family I was home with Gavin.
Anyway, I was really not feeling well and half asleep on the couch.. Gavin was laying down watching TV. He decided that he needed lunch and I just couldn’t get More >
The return to school
0Elliott returned to school this morning. He wasn’t excited about going but it was time that he returned to school. It will take him a bit to adjust but he’ll be just fine.
Emmett on the other hand, freaked out this morning when his brothers left.. He’s used to them being home and so the change was difficult to for him.
Hopefully, everyone will survive the day and remain healthy. We so need to More >
Return to the Geneticist: The plan going forward
0Lizze did a great job today at Akron Children’s Hospital as did Emmett. Many things were discussed but what came out of it was a plan for moving forward.
Basically, the geneticist wants to do a very detailed chromosomal study as well as a complete chemical panel.
Looking at his immunological records shows that is IgA is out of whack. However, he said that is very common in kids with severe More >
