Meeting a Nutritionist at @AkronChildrens today

Lizze and I don‘t our best to be proactive parents.  We like to head things off before they can become a problem, at least whenever possible.

We also never shy away from seeking get out additional help, especially when it comes to our kids.

Having said that, we will be meeting with a nutritionist at Akron Children’s Hospital todayLizze and I spoke with our immunologist and they made the referral right away.  In fact, they actually have a nutritionist in the office every Wednesday for this type of thing.

We’re hoping to get some guidelines and ideas on how to ensure Elliott is meeting go his nutritional goals, while at the same time, being on a pretty restrictive diet.

At the moment, Lizze and I are fully aware that we are in over our heads and welcome the guidance of a professional.

I’ll let you know how everything goes.

The Leap of Faith: Plans may change again

On Wednesday of this week, Lizze is scheduled to have a sleep study at the Cleveland Clinic. This is a prerequisite to entering the Chronic pain rehabilitation program.

They want to rule out sleep apnea as a contributing factor to her chronic fatigue.

However, Lizze has been and currently still is, sick. Apparently, if she isn’t feeling 100%, they sleep study will be scrubbed and rescheduled.

On top of that, services for her Grandfather, who past away Sunday night, will be on Wednesday as well.

Lizze is going to be an emotional wreck that day and I can’t see her being in a position to take part in a sleep study. My guess is that we will have to reschedule.

Unfortunately, that will put her entering the Chronic pain rehabilitation program in limbo.

We don’t know how soon we can reschedule the sleep study and the follow up appointment with her sleep neurologist.

I know this sucks but right now, we have no control over these things and so we are going to do our best to take them in stride.

This is going to be a tough enough week as it is. Perhaps it’s all for the best.

Wednesday Night Therapy: 05/23/2012

Every other Wednesday,  we have an additional therapy session.  This week is one of those weeks.  The boys get two sessions this week and they love it.

Tonight,  Dr.  Pattie is running about 30 behind and we found out as we were arriving.

Right now we are waiting 30 minutes while the boys play with toys and read books.

Van drama: Did it get fixed?

I spoke with Downtown Ford on  Wednesday morning. They informed me that the transmission has been rebuilt and was indeed part of the recall.

They wanted to address the electrical issues that were a result of the remote start before turning the van back over to me.

They have decided to replace the after market remote start with a Ford, OEM remote start. Apparently these are easy to come by, but they have tracked a few down and are trying to get their hands on one.

Hopefully this will give us the feature back that we need and eliminate the nightmarish and bizarre,  electrical issues that have plagued us since we bought it a few months ago.

Now we just wait for the call and go pick it up. Hopefully, God willing,  this will be it for awhile.

Wednesday Night Fever

I’m sooooo friggin’ tired. Between Emmett and now Elliott,  sleep was had by none.  Elliott is running a fever this morning,  most likely courtesy of Mr.  Emmett John.

I’m pretty sure I saw it written somewhere that if you have special needs kids,  only one child can be sick at a time.

If that isn’t written somewhere,  it should be.

#Autism and Anxiety

Elliott’s anxiety is absolutely through the roof.  He’s been crying all morning because he doesn’t want to go to school.

These are fake tears either,  he actually in distress and I’m not sure what we can do to help him.

I know he needs medication but the last time didn’t go very well at all. We’re back to see the psychiatrist on Wednesday morning and hopefully walk away with a better solution.

The one thing that’s always consistent with Elliott and this anxiety issue is that he says things like,  it’s going to take to long,  I can’t wait that long or it takes forever.

When he says these things,  he’s not coming across to me as simple impatient.  This seems like he is absolutely in distress.

Do any of you folks experience anything like this?  If any of my adult friends with Autism could provide me with insight,  I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you :-)

Changing of plans is no surprise…again

I mentioned last night that we have rescheduled Elliott and Gavin’s appointment with the neurologist until after they have their EEG’S done next week.

There were a few reasons for this but one of them was that Elliott wasn’t feeling well.

Elliott woke up this morning and all he really has is a runny nose. He has an occasional cough but it’s related to post nasal drip and not some kind of respiratory infection. He also hasn’t run fever since Wednesday.

He was up early and immediately bouncing off the walls. Lizze and I decided that he was well enough to go back to school.

He did not like that idea at all.  He lost it and soon came the river of tears that that we have become accustomed to,  especially lately. He literally had to be carried out to the van because he refused to walk.  I also had to wrestle him to get his coat on.

It feels really bad to have to do these things but he needs to be back at school.  Aside from the fact that he’s driving us crazy,  there was no reason for him to be home today.

He’s gonna do just fine at school today.  The teachers know what to expect and are more than capable of handling him.

It just never ceases to amaze me how frequently our plans change or have to be adjusted at the last minute. That is something that many people don’t seem to get or don’t understand.
